Hayes Weekly Update
April 23rd- April 27th
A Message from Mrs. Seybolt
Have you ever heard the old adage the days are long but the years are fast? I don't know about you, but, the days were long last week. Our students seem to be back into the swing of things and adjusting well to the extra time. Sometime this week we should be getting snacks from the cafeteria. Please make sure all students in your classroom get a snack. Snack should not be used as a behavior incentive. When I get overly hungry I am not a pleasant person, our kids get that way too.
We will be finished testing this week! Yahoo! 4th graders will take their math test Monday and Tuesday. 6th graders will be testing math and reading Monday-Thursday this week. I really appreciate everyone's flexibility and willingness to take extra kids and change planning times. It is a whole school effort to get our students tested.
As we enter the final month of school, a few things to keep in mind. It is important to continue teaching our academic standards and planning for engaging learning opportunities. I also recommend over planning your day. Free time at this time of year often does not work well for our students. They need structure. Please make sure what you are asking students to do is meaningful and not busy work. When making copies, think about the purpose of that work. Is it meaningful? Is it strengthening a skill or concept? If not, it isn't worth our students' time. When our students are engaged in meaningful learning, students' behavior is more likely to meet our expectations.
Summer School for grades 1st-6th will be held at Hayes. Summer school will be Monday-Thursdays beginning June 11th and ending June 21st. Be thinking about if you want to teach summer school. I will let you know when to apply for those positions. More information is to come!
I am so thankful to be a Hayes Cardinal. It is truly an amazing place for kids! Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
As always, if you need anything please let me know.
We are Cardinal RED,
Michelle Seybolt
