News & Notes from Ms. Kapuchuck
January 9, 2022
I hope all of you have had a wonderful weekend! Even though we only had school for two days last week due to weather, they were full of fun and excitement for our students and staff! It was great to see our students back in school and to listen to them talk about the winter break!
After a warm December, I know students were excited to see some snow! Snow days at my house were filled with sledding, building a snowman, hot dogs over the fire, and lots of hot chocolate! I hope you and your family were able to enjoy some time together and make memories to last a lifetime!
I heard from many of you that your children enjoyed the #whippedcreamchallenge! Thank you so much for sharing and for being such an incredible school community! I feel so blessed to work alongside all of you to support your children during their elementary school experience!
I am so excited to share that Tuesday, January 18th is MES Island Wing Night from 4pm-close. Enjoy dinner out on this Teacher Workday! Order take-out or dine-in and drop your receipt in our MES decorated box at the front of the store and our school will receive 15% of those food and non-alcoholic beverage sales! Please tell your friends and family and make sure they know to mention MES and drop their receipt in the box!!
Please note that Monday, January 17th is a holiday and all RCPS schools and offices will be closed. School will also be closed for a teacher workday on Tuesday, January 18th. This Friday, January 14th, is the last day of the second 9 weeks and the end of the first semester of school.
This week is a spirit week! Please see the calendar below!
Schools have experienced so many challenges since March, 2020. Each day, I am so proud of our entire staff for giving 100% to our students, despite the challenges and stressors of the pandemic. During the month of February, I would love to treat the MES staff with a special drink and snack bar! I have put together a sign-up genius with items that are needed. Please consider donating an item or two for this event by clicking here or using the link below. Let’s show our MES staff how much we appreciate them! Please sign up by Friday, February 4th, if you are able to help! Please reach out to me if you have any questions!
Have a great week ahead and as always, please reach out to me if you need anything or have any questions. I am always here to support you or your child in ANY way! :)
"It's your outlook on life that counts. If you take yourself lightly and don't take yourself too seriously, pretty soon you can find the humor in our everyday lives. And sometimes it can be a lifesaver."

RCPS COVID-19 & Health Plan Information
We continue to follow the same health and safety procedures as last year when it comes to COVID-19. Thank you for understanding that all of our schools in RCPS are following this plan in order to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. We appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding as we navigate this "new normal".
As COVID numbers in our area are rising we need to come together as a team to keep our children healthy and safe.
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF:
They have to take any medications to make them feel better or reduce fever
They have had a fever of 100.4 or higher in the last 24 hours
They have a bad cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, a runny nose that will soil more than 2 masks per day
Someone in your household is sick and being tested for COVID
If you think that you have been exposed to COVID, DO NOT send the child to school without consulting the school first.
If you are unsure of household contact or have any questions as to whether or not your child should attend school, please call the office at 540-289-3004 and ask to speak with the school nurse.
Thank you for helping us to keep all of our students and staff safe and healthy!
Transportation Changes- IMPORTANT!
Any same-day transportation changes during the school year must occur before 1:30pm. Please make sure these are taken care of through the office, rather than contacting the teacher, so that we can ensure your child gets home safely! Often, teachers do not have time to check messages and email during the day, so it is important that these changes are communicated to the office. The office will take care of making sure teachers know of the transportation changes.
