School Board Revises Dress Code
Five words have been removed from the original 2023-2024 Rules for Dress and Appearance: and extend to the waist. Therefore, students can wear crop tops that expose their abdomen for the remainder of the school year. However, sports bras are considered undergarments and students will receive referrals for wearing sports bras as a shirt. See below for examples and non-examples of what is now considered dress code for shirts. ALL OTHER RULES FOR DRESS AND APPEARANCE REMAIN THE SAME.
An excerpt from the Rules for Dress and Appearance in the 2023-2024 Student Code of Conduct is below, but please refer to page 14 of this document for full details.
•Students must wear clothing that has fabric in the front, back and on the sides (under the arms) and shoes
• Shirts and dresses must have fabric in the front, back and on the sides (under the arms)
• Shirts must have straps
• Clothing must cover undergarments (this includes straps and waistbands)
• Fabric covering chests, genitals and buttocks must be opaque
• Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education, science labs, wood
shop and other activities where unique hazards exits
• Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms or safety gear
Sports Bras- No
Sports bras are considered undergarments and this student would still be considered out of dress code. She would need to wear the sweatshirt that is tied around her waist for the entire school day.
Crop Tops- Yes
These shirts are now considered to be "in dress code".
Crop Tee- Yes
Cut off tees are now considered to be "in dress code"
Hats & Hoodies
May be worn outside the building, but not inside unless a medical or religious exemption is on file with the school.
Exposed Underwear
Even with a crop top, your underwear can't play peek-a-boo at school. We don't want to see undergarments --even when worn as layers-- on campus.
Pajama Pants & Lounge Pants
Crocs/Clogs
These shoes are permitted with the heel strap (sports mode) in use.
Bubble Slides/Slippers
This style of shoe cannot be firmly attached to the foot, and creates a safety issue on stairs. Save these comfy shoes are for evening/weekend wear.
Blankets
When weather turns chilly or cold, grab a jacket! Please keep blankets at home. They are safety issues on stairs, too! We will take blankets that make their way to campus and keep them in the office for parent pickup.

Sports Schedules
Help Our PE Program Grow!
Anything helps keeping our students active at our STEM School! The original direction of our school for 2023-2024 school year was not to have physical education offered in person on campus. Well, the stakeholders voices were heard and we went live with our PE classes.
Our space is very limited and we have some work ahead of us to get creative with fitness. The students are on computers quite a bit during their educational pathway and what better way for a brain break is to get outside and enjoy fun physical activities.
Pickleball lets kids be active in a lower-impact way and the mental stimulation helps with mood stabilization. Kids can play with friends, learn the game and play with their family in the community.

Magnet Program Attendance Requirements Explained
Students enrolled in a magnet program must demonstrate a pattern of consistent attendance. Students who miss more than 5% of their school days may be recommended for revocation of their school choice assignment. If your student must miss school for any reason, please reach out to our school office for information about obtaining excused absence status and to review their overall attendance status.
Students whose attendance, grades, behavior or test score data indicate a reason for concern will receive notification letters during the week of 10/16 - 10/20, and will work with school staff to develop an improvement plan for Quarter 2.
Thank you, parent Tracie L., for sharing your expertise as an SRO w/ this list!

9 Ways We Teach Our Kids to Be Disrespectful
I remember being super excited the day my son grabbed his glove and took the diamond for his first real baseball game. I played the sport growing up and loved it, but I didn’t remember cheering guidelines hanging on the dugout fences when I was a kid. I was surprised to read rules for spectators like, Remember, these are just kids. The umpires are human. The coaches are volunteers. It got me thinking about ballpark (and parenting) behavior. The only reason for that sign being posted was because too many parents were getting belligerent over T-ball. It must have been pretty bad, too, to warrant those words of warning. Shouting and belittling someone over balls and strikes in Little League or starting a fight is ridiculous. You would not only look like a fool, but your child could also pick up a few disrespectful habits from the person who is supposed to set a good example for them. Sometimes, as dads, we must check ourselves because our little ones learn a lot by watching us. Here are 9 ways we teach our kids to be disrespectful.
Huddle up with your kids and ask,
"How do you think it makes people feel when you disrespect them?”
