Marksmen Minute
A Look Ahead to the Week
Empty Bowls
While we are sure you have heard about this, the Empty Bowls event is this Saturday night starting at 5:00pm. Basically, you come....pay $10 for a ceramic bowl designed by a fellow student....get a nice meal....and take the bowl home! All profits are used to support fighting hunger with the youth of Perry County. It's a great charity event - come out and support!!
Art Show / Coffee House
Throughout this week, the Art Show will be taking place in the Library. Make time to check out the cool artwork students have created this year. Also, during the Empty Bowls event this weekend, the Art Show will be open....plus there is a Coffee House at 7:15pm.
Dodgeball Tourney
The local Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting a dodgeball tourney on Saturday at 9:00am in the Bryan Taylor Sports Arena. It's $200 to register a team of 10 people ($20 per person if you break it down that way.) All event information is on our website at GoBigPerrySpencer.org.
No School Friday
"Hey Jacob."
--- "What?"
"I don't want to have school on Friday."
--- "OK. Don't come."
"Bingo."
Weekly Stuff
April Fools Blues
I know that some of you were disappointed that we did not get April Fools Day off, but don't worry! We should be getting every Friday off for a while. Since we were in school on the 1st, I bet some of you got your friends good with a nice April Fools prank. Let's take a look at some funny pranks throughout history!
- In 1996 Virgin Cola issued a warning to all soda drinkers that when a soda passes its expiration date it turns blue, this also happened to coincide with Pepsi's release of their bright blue cans.
- In 2009 the Swiss Tourism Board revealed why their mountains are so clean; it's due to the Swiss Mountain Cleaners. This is a team of people who scale the Alps daily to scrub the rocks clean. Millions of people saw the announcement video, and 30,000 of them even took a test to see if they could become a "Felsenputzer" (mountain cleaner).
- In 1987 The Daily Mirror fooled thousands of people into thinking that world-leaders Mikhail Gorbachev and Margaret Thatcher were having an affair. How could they pull this off? They used lookalikes to stage romantic scenes between the two.
- In 1950 residents of Skyforest, California snuck out in the middle of the night to string 50,000 oranges up in pine trees. This got many motorists to believe that pine trees could grow oranges.
- In 2014 NPR News shared a link to an article titled "Why Don't Americans Read Anymore." The article generated hundreds of comments from people of conflicting views. However, the article itself simply said "We sometimes get the sense that some people are commenting on NPR stories that they haven't actually read. If you are reading this, please like this post and do not comment on it. Then let's see what people have to say about this 'story.'"
