Student Engagement
This time each year Dr. Hefner reminds principals that he is often contacted by parents who complain that their child's teacher only shows videos, students complete worksheets, and ultimately students participate in meaningless/mindless work. Mr. Gantt and I will still stop by classes this week.
Responsibility versus accountability. As a school it is our responsibility to maintain high levels of engagement no matter the time of year. Thanks for your attendance to this.

Addressing Summer Slide with Book Giveaway
Children who read as few as six books over the summer break can maintain their reading skills at a level achieved in the preceding school year (Allington & McGill-Franzen, 2008).
Summer reading loss accounts for at least 80% of the reading achievement gap by ninth grade (Allington & McGill-Franzen, 2009).
We are grateful of the commitment and work of our literacy team/PTO/SIC and happy to announce that all Fox Cubs will go home with 6 highly engaging texts to add their home libraries to access and read during the summer.
S. Somerall has shared and sent a schedule to our homeroom teachers. We will send a Smore newsletter this Wednesday informing parents of the book giveaway and how to support readers this summer.
Reflection leading to change and growth
