A message from Ameka Hunt, Principal of PHS
Greetings Panthers,
Best wishes for an amazing Memorial Day weekend. It was great seeing everyone at our Miles of Smile event for our seniors Wednesday, May 20th. The parking lot was full of PHS faculty and staff who showed up in support of our seniors. Mrs. Vernagene Mott (PfISD Board President) showed up to cheer for our graduates as well.
I’d also like to thank Debrah Watts, and all organizers of the upcoming senior parade May 28th. We are definitely proud of everything the Class of 2020 has accomplished.
We look forward to seeing everyone at graduation June 1, 2020 at 8:00 am.

Food Benefits for Families with Children
Because of school closures from COVID-19, Texas received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide more than $1 billion in pandemic food benefits to families with children that have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals.
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) provides eligible families with a one-time payment for each child who previously received free or reduced-price meals. P-EBT works the same way Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits do and will help families get the food they need during the current pandemic.
Families who receive SNAP benefits for the month of March 2020 and have children 5-18 years old as of May 15, 2020, do not need to apply for those children. These families will receive P-EBT benefits on their current Lone Star Card by May 22.
Families with children up to 21 years old who are certified to receive free or reduced-price meals durng the 201-2020 school year will need to apply for P-EBT.
PFISD will send you a link to an online application by the first week of June. Once HHSC receives the application and verifies your eligibility with the school list, you will receive a Texas P-EBT card in the mail that includes P-EBT funds.
P-EBT will be administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texas Department of Agriculture and Texas Education Agency. To learn about eligibility and how to apply, see the FAQ below:

SNAP recipients can now make online purchases from Amazon and Walmart.

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
Hello,
As we approach the final week of school, it becomes imperative that if you have any questions about student grades or incomplete assignments that you contact your student’s English teacher as soon as possible.
We are still missing many responses to the Summer Reading Pre-AP/AP Google survey. A response of receipt is needed from all students regardless of whether they are enrolled in a Pre-AP or AP course for next year. It is important for every student to recognize the list because students can often change their minds over summer and want to try an advanced course. If your student has not done so, please have him/her click here to complete the Google form.
Pflugerville ISD is offering each student a free book this summer through the Pflugerville Reads Project. Please read this link to find out which campuses offer book pick-up availability on 5/26.
We wish parents and students a great last school week!

Parent Climate Survey
We are asking parents to take a brief survey to tell us about their experience with their student’s campus to ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career. We are asking families to complete the survey before it closes on May 29.

STAAR EOC Courses - Important Information (English & Español)
Dear Parents,
I wanted to check in and give you some information about STAAR EOC testing for the school year 2019-2020.
If your student is enrolled in a STAAR tested subject this school year, this email will pertain to them. STAAR tested subjects include English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History.
Per TEA (Texas Education Agency):
- There will be no STAAR EOC administrations for both spring 2020 and summer 2020. These administrations have been waived by TEA.
- A student currently enrolled in a STAAR EOC class who is a first-time tester for the corresponding STAAR EOC is not required to take and pass the STAAR EOC as long as the STUDENT PASSES THE COURSE by August of 2020.
Please discuss this with your student and advise them of the importance of the Distance Learning assignments. These MUST be completed so that the grade they receive for this 4th nine weeks does not affect their ability to pass a STAAR tested subject. If they fail the class, they will repeat the class AND take the STAAR test for that class. Any questions please reach out to me.
Dr. Sara Butler
Assistant Principal: Testing/Intervention

BrightBytes – survey for ALL students and parents
Dear Pflugerville High School Campus Community,
We are partnering with BrightBytes, an educational research organization, to learn more about you and your students’ technology access and use for learning.
The goal of this project is to gather data on technology access, skills, and your school’s technology environment, in order to understand the connection between technology use and student achievement.
Our data collection window is set to run from March 30 - May 27, 2020.
Each school is assigned three unique Technology and Learning Questionnaires. There is one designed for teachers and administrators; one designed for students, and one designed for parents.
Your questionnaire links are listed below:
Your participation and support is important to us and will make the difference between having a complete understanding of our school’s technology use versus a limited one.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Victor Valdez, Chief Technology Officer
Kathryn Ives, Director Integration Services
