I do thank you for your understanding and adaptability with moving our Mustang Fest to Sunday afternoon, 2:00-5:00 p.m. This is a big production and last minute change is extremely difficult so a decision had to be made early...and as you know...safety of all rules!
We can not thank you enough to our parents and adults who were and are able to attend our Student Led Conferences. We continue to be very proud of our students and how they have handled this with pride in presenting to a new audience.
Please note two BIG events this coming week:
First, we invite you and your children to join us at LOPAC beside Lexington High School as we celebrate our Teachers of the Year and support our very own finalist, Laura Gates. This will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday April 6th. Do join us!
Second, note that our all day Super Hero Field Day is on Friday, April 7! We still need many volunteers so we need YOU!! This is the most awesome day of the school year!! The link is in our newsletter for volunteering.
Enjoy the weekend and I hope to see you on Sunday at Mustang Fest!
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary
Please sign up to volunteer for Field Day! We need your help!!!!!
We're getting ready for The REAL Superhero Field Day Friday, April 07th
Morning Shift Field Day from 8:30 am to 11:00 am
Afternoon Shift Field Day from from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
This year our Field Day will be about our Real Super Heroes.....our teachers. They work hard every school day and then bring their work home with them. Our Super Heroes are planning their lessons, reaching and teaching, and keeping our school safe.
Our Real Super Hero Field Day will be an all day event from 9-1:30. We will have many stations for our students to participate in but we also need volunteers to assist us. We will have over 35 stations and we need lots of volunteers to run the stations. Having adults at stations makes the station run smoothly and allows our kids to have a safe time playing. We have two volunteer times, one is 8:30 -11 and 11:00 - 1:30. Please help our children have a fantastic time before Spring Break.
Thank you,
Laura Gates

Student-led Conferences
If you or a family member are unable to attend, all administrators and available Midway staff are attending to be sure that each student has a guest. Please understand that we are doing this school-wide and during the day so that 100% of our children can lead a data conversation about their learning and share their success. We understand if you are not able to make it on the assigned days but please know we can not reschedule. We do want you to hear from your child about the learning. You can talk with your child about their goals and accomplishments at home and celebrate their learning together.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you!

2017 Cohort of Literacy and Engagement with Historical Records Project
Congratulations to Midway teacher, Ms. Alva Suggs, as she heads back to college this summer to improve the learning of students statewide.
Invited by the University of South Carolina, Midway Fourth Grade Teacher will explore the university's digital collection and create document-based questions designed to captivate a student's interest. With these new document-based questions, students will use historical records to develop digital literacy skills.
The project, featuring three cohorts of 15 teachers, is made possible by a federal grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission and is a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Education and USC.
Suggs meets with fellow educators July 10-13 and July 17-18, 2017 for six days of document-based question training and writing.
