Survey Season - Your Voice, Our Future
There will be two surveys coming your way, and your voice matters to help guide OLA's future.
The first comes from Alberta Education and is called the Alberta Education Accountability Pillar Survey. Thank you for completing this survey when it comes to you. For more information about this survey, please click here.
A second survey directly from Elk Island Catholic Schools called The Assurance Survey gathers information to ensure OLA's progress is in alignment with our collaboratively created Assurance Plans, celebrates elements that are in alignment, and helps us as an OLA community to realign where needed, and thus guiding OLA's future direction.
When these surveys arrive in the mail or in your email inbox, thank you in advance for completing them. Your voice matters to help guide OLA's future!

Tech Time
In this section of the newsletter, we will share tools and information with parents to help bring awareness about children's safety online or during screen time. Upcoming parent workshops will be shared here too.

How school age children are affected by media is important to their overall health and development. This tip sheet will help you understand how media can positively and negatively affect how they think, act, learn and grow. Use this information as a guide to help you choose media that are best for your child.
Scientific research has shown time and again that children learn from what they see on a screen. If they see violence being rewarded, they are going to learn that being aggressive is a good way to get what they want, and this belief can have long term effects on children’s behavior.
Land Acknowledgment
Why Do We Say It and What Does It Mean?
As many of you are aware, Our Lady of Angels Catholic School reads the Territory and Land Acknowledgment during our school assemblies and meetings. Over the past couple of years, we have been discussing the importance of this statement with staff and students and we would like to include our parent community in these discussions as well. Over the next several weeks, we will be sharing one small statement about why this is a necessary and important piece as we move towards reconciliation. The statements are meant to not only be information pieces for you and your family but we are hoping that they will encourage discussion with your children as well. You will be able to easily identify the statement each week as it will be accompanied with the above photo.
