Book Wars

You should have received an email from Mrs. Noe about our Book Wars this week. We have teamed up with Mrs. Adolf's and Miss Riddle's classrooms. Please make sure that your child's red recording sheet stays in their Take Home Folder so it can come back and forth to school every day. I will need to record the page count they read at home every day. Homework will be on the back of the recording sheet. I hope your child participates at home to help our team!

Pizza Party

Our class has earned our whole group incentive - a pizza party! We will be having the pizza party this Friday, February 19 during our lunchtime.

I am looking for a volunteer to pick up the pizzas and deliver them to the classroom by 11:00-11:15.

Also - if you are available to donate drinks (juice boxes); plates, napkins, etc. that would be wonderful. Please email me and let me know what you are willing to donate. THANK YOU!

Field Trip

The third grade is going on a field trip to the Children's Museum on Tuesday, February 23. We will leave South at 9:30 and return at 1:45. We will be eating lunch at the museum. If your child does not bring a lunch from home, he/she can purchase a sack lunch from the school cafeteria to take.

Signed permission slips are due ASAP.

Our two chaperones were chosen - Mrs. O'Neal and Mrs. Miller. Thank you to ALL of the parents that offered to volunteer!

On Monday, February 29 we will begin our first round of ISTEP testing.

This portion includes:

Reading-Multiple reading passages and constructed responses

Math-Problem solving with writing portion

Writing-Extended responses to reading passages

All sections of ISTEP will be timed. Anything not finished cannot be completed at a later time.

What's happening this week in Room 512!

We are continuing in our Measurement unit. This includes measuring to the nearest inch, half inch, and quarter inch. In addition, we will learn units of length, capacity, and weight.

Please encourage studying math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) at home. If you are unsure what facts your child should be studying, please email me. I can also print out flashcards to study at home.

We are continuing test writing to better prepare for the ISTEP test starting Monday, February 29.

With the shorter week, we will be reviewing this week. We will work on test prep for the ISTEP and IREAD3 test. We will also work on a reader's theater skit, as well as research famous African Americans to celebrate Black History Month.
