HOMEROOM CLASS MEETINGS
At Dena’ina Elementary, the only time we expect students to be on a synchronous (all together) meeting via Zoom is once a week with their homeroom class.
ALL CLASS MEETINGS ARE 9:30 - 10:00 AM
- Tuesdays - Kindergarten & 1st Grade
- Wednesdays - 2nd Grade & 3rd Grade
- Thursdays - 4th Grade & 5th Grade
***If your child cannot attend this weekly meeting, please contact the teacher directly.
This meeting is intended to mimic our familiar daily class meetings and will serve as a structured time for students to interact and stay connected. Class meetings are just for students, but teachers will stay on the meeting afterwards in case there are parents who have questions. Additionally, homeroom teachers will be using this time to ask if any students are struggling with assignments or subjects. If they have a different teacher for that subject, the homeroom teacher will pass it on so the subject teacher can contact you to set up a time to tutor or help. Teachers will also be monitoring student work & assessments to contact you if they feel a student needs assistance. It is our hope that this system will reduce the number of places parents need to go for contact & help, provide a predictable schedule and allow students time to socialize.
GRADES 2-5 SUBJECT MEETINGS
Students in grades 2-5 will have OPTIONAL online meetings with their subject area teachers. Subject meetings will take place on Fridays as follows:
- 9:30 - 10:00 2nd & 3rd Grade Reading
- 10:15 - 10:45 2nd & 3rd Grade Math
- 11:00-11:30 4th Grade Reading
- 11:45-12:15 4th Grade Math
- 1:00-1:30 5th Grade Reading
- 1:30-2:00 5th Grade Math
The purpose of the subject area meeting is to connect with the subject area teacher and classmates, check in on how the week's work went and allow the teacher to preview what students can expect the following week. This meeting is just for students, but parents are welcome to briefly ask questions afterwards, as the teacher may need to set up for the next meeting. Teachers will be monitoring student work & assessments and will keep in regular contact with parents regarding progress and needs.
