Glenville Welcomes High Touch High Tech to Fourth Grade
This week's "Classroom Look-in"
Third grade is completing their second writing unit, "Changing the World: Persuasive Speeches, Petitions, and Editorials." In the pictures below, students were using a checklist to self-assess their persuasive writing pieces. The checklist ensures students have a lead, use transition words/phrases, have a strong ending, is organized into paragraphs, includes specific details on his/her topic and reminds students to review for punctuation and spelling accuracy. Thank you, Mrs. Barone, for letting me spotlight you and your students' hard work this week!
4 Tips for Parents to Help with Reading at Home
Breakout Boxes in the Learning Commons
This week the fifth graders used their knowledge of astronomy to work with their group to break out of the box. Breakout boxes allow students to collaborate with their peers to solve puzzles to gather codes to unlock the box.
Nurse's News: FLU ALERT
Dear Parents,
As some of you know, the Influenza virus has been circulating in the community and at Glenville School.
As a result of this I would like to remind you of a few key points:
If your child is exhibiting any signs of the Flu such as fever, cough, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, sore throat, please keep them home and consider taking them to the doctor, especially if they have a fever.
This week the school health supervisor Mary Keller, RN, and our School Medical Advisor, pediatrician Dr. Arnold Korval, has changed our policy regarding when children can return to school after having the Flu. Children can return to school a minimum of 5 days after diagnosis and after 24 hours of being fever free. This replaces our old return policy of only being fever free for 24 hours before your child can return to school.
The longer they are home the less likely they are to spread the virus to others.
Also please remind your child to wash their hands frequently.
It is very important that you notify me via email or phone call or call the main office if your child is diagnosed with Influenza. Also please try to get a note from your doctor confirming the Influenza diagnosis and send it to school.
If you have any questions please let me know.

Odds & Ends
*Please remember that staff begins outside supervision at 8:25 AM. We kindly ask that you do not drop your child off before then, especially during this very cold season.
* Please remember to follow the appropriate drop-off pattern in the morning. Lately, we have noticed many cars pulling up into the fire lane. This is a safety hazard and we ask for your cooperation in refraining from doing this in the future.
