PTA Auction Library Movie Night Event

Winning students of the PTA Auction event - 'Movie Night in the Library', came to school on the evening of January 17 and we partied till 9pm!

A great time was had by all. We did some arts and crafts, ate pizza in the staffroom - shhh don't tell the teachers! We did a treasure hunt in the Library, made ice cream sundaes in the kitchen and played games, like hide-and-seek and pass-the-parcel late at night in the dark library! We even had time to watch a few minutes of a movie. Photos below.

Thank you to all the parents who bid on this event at the November school fair - the money raised will go towards the playground redevelopment.

Book Week starts on Monday, March 31st!

This year our Book Week will run from Monday, March 31 until Friday, April 4.

We'll have many authors visiting us again this year, lots of competitions as well as the much anticipated "Catch me Reading" competition - more details to follow next newsletter, but your child can start planning where they will be 'caught' reading!

We are excited to welcome back Bookazine to run the book sale this year! Bookazine will be set up in the Library all week for students to browse and purchase books. From this sale, our library will then receive a donation of books from Bookazine - so it benefits the whole school!

A note for your diary - the Book Week parade day will be Friday, April 4!
Start planning costumes now!!

We can't wait! Details in next month's Library Newsletter.

Battle of the Books!

Students in Year 5 and Year 6 are invited to join Glenealy's Battle of the Books club. Students will need to attend weekly meetings every Friday from 12:45 - 1:30 in the library in preparation for the competition. Students will be able to bring their lunch with them. We will begin to form teams and practise mock questions in preparation for inter-school competitions.

If your child is interested in finding out more, please email me at or take a look at the official HK BOB website HERE.

Below is a list of the 20 titles in this year's battle.

Sarah Brennan writes -

"It’s the Year of the Horse, so OF COURSE the new Clever Competition for all you wonderful writers out there just has to be a Handsome Horse Poem Competition! Everyone loves horses, so I want you to imagine a fabulous, fantastic, gorgeous, galloping, and absolutely amazing Horse and write me a poem about him or her!"

Details and rules HERE.

Sarah Brennan's new Chinese Calendar Tales book, "The Tale of A Dark Horse" is now available in for students to borrow in the library!

Scholastic Book Catalogues

Scholastic catalogues and order forms will come home with your child next week. Please return the form together with your cheque (sorry, no cash please) by Monday, February 24 if you would like to order books.

Chess Club every Wednesday lunchtime in the Library

Students from Year 2 to Year 6 are invited to come to the library every Wednesday lunchtime (1:05-1:30) to play friendly games of chess with other students.

Nicholas Mathyssek (Y5) and Brian Lee (Y6) came up with the idea for this club and we think it's wonderful!

We have lots of keen chess players at Glenealy, so if your child would like to come and play some friendly matches, please remind them every Wednesday.
