MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 1/27-2/1
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
As we work to incorporate more performance tasks or assessments (see last week's edition for a reminder of the two), sometimes it's helpful to have some ideas to look at.
Here are some that MPS developed (Patrice Ball actually spearheaded the work) to assess writing. They're in the GRASPS format. While they were written to correspond with the old WI standards, there's a lot we might use to try out now. They're sorted by grade level. Take a peek, and maybe you'll be inspired!
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- Please complete this survey about inclusion. This will help drive the work of our inclusion task force, both at Edgewood and district wide.
- Have ideas for improving our bus lines/dismissal? Add them to the Google Doc Here
- Your slots for parent-teacher conferences should be nearly full. After you've scheduled conferences with more pressing concerns, I encourage you to open up remaining slots to any other parents who would like to talk about their child's progress with you. Please let me know if you have questions or would like me to join you for a conference.
Staff Shout Outs to...
- To Rachael, Mireille, Lori, and Jennifer, who jumped in to cover lunch/recess when needed this week.
- To Alex, for saving the teacher's pride in our dodgeball game. That ending was epic.
- To Joe and Mark Doornek, who helped some students to understand the potential harmful impacts of some foolish actions.
- To Sarah and Rebecca, who designed a culturally-based service learning project in which kids raised $417.35 and learned to identify and count coins (and a lot of them!).
- Diane and Rachel for helping me through a rough time and giving up 2 nights to come up with a plan.
To Bryan for expertly translating a parent conference and giving the parents, especially the mom, a voice.
Shout out to Ava for finding “just right” books for our 4K tigers.
Shout out to Schuett for passing down tons of her own toys, books and games to 4K.
To Meg, Jodi, and Holly for always supporting me in various ways with 4th grade recess/lunch.
To Sue for organizing Kohl's Wild Theater, and to all teachers for taking time to have kids reflect on their behaviors via bingo boards.
