Village Insider (COVID-19): Issue 7
Aurora Community School
Governor Polis signed an executive order suspending in-person learning in public and private schools across the state through April 30th. However, Governor Polis has stated that it is "unlikely" that students will return to class this year. Aurora Public Schools and the surrounding districts in the Denver Metro area have all decided to stop in-person learning, for the remainder of the year. We, at ACS, will follow suit and utilize virtual learning for the remainder of the school year.
Community Panel (Virtual Hiring): We Need Your Help
This Saturday, April 25 from 9 am - 1 pm, we will interview approximately 6-8 people. We will have staff members joining...and we want you (adults) and our students to join us virtually!
We want to make sure that your voice is included, when determining which teachers/staff will join the ACS family!
If you are able/interested in participating this round, please complete this form, so we can send the information your way!
End of School Year: VOTE <Action Needed>
We don't want to make this decision alone; so we are asking that you take a minute to complete this very short poll, regarding the last day of school. Once we've heard from you, we will share out the results and any additional information necessary!

Also, thanks to all who were able to join Mr. Ronnie for Tai Chi! We are so grateful for our relationship with The Apprentice of Peace, and we are hopeful that the time allowed you to recenter and refocus!
LEGO Challenge
Challenge: Pressure-Proof Structure
Imagine that your LEGO person is working in a mine underground deep inside the Earth. Create a shelter for the mine workers that will withstand the pressure of the earth and protect miners from a cave-in. As a family unit, discuss ways in which you can make your structure strong enough that it can withstand a lot of force.
The pressure in the core of the earth is very high, and pushes on structures from all
angles, so every part of the build will need to be extremely strong.
Test your structure using a heavy item from your house such as small weights etc.
Test the top, sides and bottom of the structure you have built to see if it can withstand pressure from every angle.
When you have tested your structure, submit a video of you testing your structure and/or a picture of your structure prior to your test. Send your video to Ashley!
There's a $10 gift card up for grabs from the person with the strongest structure!
Food Boxes: Friday April 24
In addition, this Friday, April 24 from 11 am - 1 pm we will offer small bags of perishable and non-perishable groceries, that you can cook at your home (both breakfast and lunch/dinner options). We will serve until we run out of items; so this is offered on a first come, first serve basis.
Please stay in your car, in a line, in front of the church, and we will bring everything to your car.
Remote Learning Schedule
- Teachers have created packets of work that will be included in soft copy (in their newsletter email) and available for pick up at the school each Friday between 11 am - 1 pm. If you are unable to pickup during this time, the paper packets will be mailed to your home.
- Teachers are offering LIVE sessions, where they will provide instruction in content areas (see schedule above for more details).
- Teachers will offer OFFICE HOURS for students to drop in and ask questions, get help with assignments, or just say hi to the teacher and friends (see schedule above for more details).
