Recently, members of the Lenape History Corps were given the unique honor of being invited by the United States Navy Memorial to attend a Veterans’ Conference in Washington, D.C. honoring veterans who participated in defining moments in our nation’s history. Lenape’s History Corps is a student group that was created to interview and preserve the stories of our nation’s veterans. The select students were invited in recognition for their hard work, dedication, and participation in a pilot program that encourages students from across the country to record the stories of our veterans for future generations. Lenape students were the only student film crew invited to honor these veterans by preserving their stories.

Four members of the History Corps Film Crew participated by recording the histories of Meda; of Honor Recipients, Iwo Jima Veterans, American pilots who were held in the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War, and more. The student participants were History Corps President Madison S., Antonio D., Cameron C., and Brendon M. Teacher participants were Social Studies teachers Mr. Fash and Mr. Stanziola.

Lenape Veterans' Day Assemblies

This past week, Lenape continued its tradition of paying tribute to our nation’s veterans on November 11, by holding a series of assemblies for our students. This year’s theme focused on the newly dedicated Wall of Fame and Honor. The Wall of Fame and Honor was a student-led initiative to honor the achievements of Lenape students, staff, faculty, and alumni. During this ceremony, the final phase of the wall was unveiled, which included the names of our Lenape community who have served in our Armed Forces. Lenape community members who have made positive contributions to our community through other ways are also featured on this wall.

Veterans and civilian alumni, faculty, and staff were invited to attend the Veterans’ Day event at Lenape. Alumni and teachers who served in the military were asked to share their memories from Lenape (dating back to the 1960’s) and their service experience. Lenape welcomed home our alumni, Jim Duckett, Lenape Class of 1958, U.S. Army, 1966-1968, Service in Europe during the Cold War; Bill Dunn, Lenape Class of 1962, U.S. Army Artillery, Vietnam War Veteran; Chris Stratton, Lenape Class of 1965, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Cold War Veteran; Captain Jessica Reid, Lenape Class of 1995 and Social Studies Teacher, U.S. Army, Operation Iraqi Freedom; and retired teacher Walter Treweek, Lenape Math Teacher, U.S. Navy, USS Essex, CVS 9.
