Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year

I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our Greenwood students and families! I am so excited to begin the school year and be a part of a collaborative atmosphere to support of each one of our students. Our enrollment has grown by over 30 students, and we look forward to ensuring that each one of them is cared-for and nurtured throughout their school day. Our team of about 35 staff members strives to build positive, supportive relationships with all students.

Meet the Principal

My name is Jenny Inman and I am so excited to enter into my second year as your building principal! I have grown so much in my journey as an administrator this past year, and look forward to our work together in 2022-2023. If you are new to Greenwood, welcome to one of the best school communities in DMPS! There is nowhere I would rather be starting my 17th year as an educator!

This summer has brought lots of improvements to our building and grounds. Mr. Todd, our chief custodian, and I added some fresh paint to a few rooms. My family and I renovated all of the landscaping up front. We added Woody's Wellness room for staff self-care and a Woodchuck Reflection Room for sensory breaks and social skills. Our biggest update was new carpet throughout the building and HVAC upgrades in the K-2 section.

If you ever have questions, concerns, or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out via e-mail: or phone 515-242-8410. I will typically be out in classrooms during the school day, so Nikki, our Office Manager will take a message if I am unavailable and I will get back to you within 24 hours.

Classroom Teacher Postcards

Our enrollment has grown by over thirty students this summer! We are getting new student registrations nearly every day and are working to ensure each classroom is balanced. We will be sending out our classroom assignment "Teacher Postcards" at the end of the next week, so they should be arriving to your mailboxes around August 16th.

1st Day of School: Wednesday, August 24

We are so excited to see all of you on the first day of school! The front doors will be open for student entry at 7:30am and school starts at 7:45am. Dismissal is at 2:40pm.

Staff members will be helping students get to their classrooms. There are opportunities for photos out front by the Greenwood Elementary sign and the front of the building. We will provide additional information about drop off/pick up procedures as we get closer to the start of the school year, they remain unchanged from last years procedures.

During this time, students/families will have an opportunity to meet their Kindergarten teacher, tour the building, check out their desk space, and visit with classmates.

Kindergarten Transition Programming: NEW FOR 2022

Kindergarten looks a little bit different this year, with the district-wide implementation of a kindergarten transition program! Kindergarten students will start their first day of school along with all elementary students on Wednesday, August 24. However, they won't initially be assigned to a specific classroom teacher. For the first seven days, kindergarten students will be participating in various activities to help them ease into elementary school. Each day students will be grouped differently to engage in a variety of social activities, learn structures and routines, share their knowledge of early kindergarten skills, and to get a feel for the building. All kindergarten students will enter through the front doors each morning and meet in the gym where they will be greeted as a group, have a chance to eat breakfast, and then review their day and break into smaller groups.

During Meet the Teacher Night, on September 1, your child will get to formally meet their classroom teacher for the year, tour the building, and check out their desks/cubbies/lockers, etc. There will NOT be school for Kindergarten students on Friday, September 2, to provide time for teachers to prepare their classrooms and instructional routines for the formal start of their rostered class, which begins on Tuesday, September 6.

This process is new, and I am sure we may experience a few hiccups along the way, so we appreciate your flexibility as we move into this transition experience. We are very excited to give students the opportunity to learn about the building, their teachers, and each other prior to assigning them to a permanent classroom. Additionally, this period of time also gives us a chance to identify each student's strengths and growth areas in order to determine the best learning environment for each one of them.

We have done our best to include only the necessary supplies. Please let Nikki Clearwater, our office manager, or myself know if your family needs help with purchasing school supplies for your child and we can assist. You can also view the supply list for each grade level HERE.

Please save the date to walk, run or cheer on participants during the DMPS Foundation's annual OneRun event. This event is sponsored by corporate donations, which are then dispersed to participating DMPS buildings based on the number of participants in the event. Gather your family, friends, and neighbors and bring them to the Botanical Center to participate in a FREE 2-mile walk/run on behalf of Greenwood Elementary. If you don't want to run or walk, you can still register to cheer on participants along the course. Last year we had 40 participants, which earned us a $2000 donation toward our track project. SchoolCNXT is now SNAP! Connect

We will be utilizing SNAP!Connect, formally known as SchoolCNXT, a web based platform, to share important updates. school news, and announcements in real time to all Greenwood families. This app/website provides direct access for parents and school staff to communicate instantly through a text messaging feature. Additionally, it can be translated into several different languages, allowing all families access to their preferred communication language. You can download the app in the Apple or Android store for free, or access it via the web at

If you don't already have an account, you should have received a text or e-mail with a code to sign-up and link to your child's classroom. If you deleted the message or missed it, I will be sending out weekly invites for the next to weeks as we work to get families connected.

If you've created an account in past years, but don't recall your username, please e-mail and I will help get you connected. Additionally, if you've forgotten your password, but know your username, you can click on the FORGOT PASSWORD link on the sign-on page to reset it.
