Community Involvement

Why is community involvement important?

Engaging in community service provides students with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service or volunteerism enables students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most.

WRHS Clubs

  • Be Like Brit Club: Participate in fundraising activities & volunteer at the BLB Operations Center

  • Diversity Inclusion Group: Safe space for students of minority backgrounds to share their experiences, challenges as well as successes. Present ideas to teachers, admin, and representatives. Students are united based on their passion for social justice and equity among all people.

  • Middle School Tutoring Group: Go to Mountview Middle School to tutor the middle school students after school in their homework center.

  • Mountaineer Peers:

  • Mountaineer Volunteers: Involved in food drives, raking leaves for senior citizens, homework club at Mayo, visit local nursing homes, and participate in various fundraisers

  • Red Cross Club: Learn, practice, and exemplify humanitarian values through mission related service projects

  • Save the Animals: Raise money for animal charities and improve environment for the animals… volunteer at animal shelters

  • Sherry’s Helpers: Provides support to children undergoing cancer treatment at Sherry’s House in Worcester, MA. Makes cards, writes pen pal letters, volunteers their time and organizes fundraisers.

  • Think Globally, Act Locally: Discuss and raise awareness of global issues and apply similar concepts to our society. Think of ideas to prevent similar issues happening in our school, town, etc.

  • Wachusett Art Collective: Focuses on amplifying marginalized voices through various forms of art.

  • Wachusett’s Leo’s: Dedicated to community service and work with the Lion’s club to provide community service programs focusing on the social region as well as state & national programs.

  • We Matter: students of all ethnicities/races to gather and discuss issues in a nonjudgemental and supportive environment. Students look for ways to support each other, raise awareness, and create opportunities for inclusivity.

Volunteering increases self-confidence.

Volunteering can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. You are doing good for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity.

Wachusett Area Social Justice Alliance

WASJA is a locally-run non-profit organization committed to the furtherance of issues of social justice in the Wachusett and surrounding areas.
