The Fairview Connection

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families last week! I’d like to thank all parents for coming out to parent-teacher conferences two weeks ago. It is so helpful to us to have the chance to meet face-to-face with you to celebrate the successes of our students and provide information on our goals for their future progress. A big thank you goes out to the PTO for providing meals for staff during our conference days as well. Lastly, thank you to all parents who picked up a tag to purchase a gift for our Fairview Giving Tree. Please return these wrapped gifts with the tag attached by Monday, December 16th to the front office. Our Fairview families in need greatly appreciate your generosity!
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who showed their support for our music program at Fairview by attending the Winter Concerts this past week. It was exciting to see our gym filled with smiles, cameras, and the beautiful sound of children singing. It means so much to our students to have the opportunity to show off their talents, and your ongoing support is encouraging to the staff as we continue to partner with you in your child’s education. I’d also like to take a moment to thank Mrs. Loeffler again for her efforts in organizing and leading these concerts and for fostering a love of music among Fairview students!
With this being the holiday season, the Fairview staff felt it was a perfect time of year to have a heightened awareness on showing kindness to one another. For that reason, the week of December 16th-December 20th will be our third annual Let Your Kindness Shine Week at Fairview. The purpose of the week will be to work as a school community to be intentional about showing one another kindness. While this is something we hope to do every week at Fairview, sometimes it is helpful to be more purposeful and thoughtful about showing kindness, so we’ve developed themes for the week and planned out some fun activities for the students to enjoy centered on the theme of kindness. For a rundown of our weekly themes and activities, please see the flyer included in today’s newsletter. One day to note is Monday, December 16th where we will have “Mix It Up Monday” during the lunch hour. We are going to have our students sit with their buddy classrooms on this date, so all 3rd and 5th graders will eat from 11:50-12:20 together followed by 2nd and 4th graders from 12:20-12:50. We will also be participating in the Fairview Kindness Express, which is a letter writing activity where students will be paired with someone else from a different grade level and “mail” that person letters throughout the week to explain their plans for showing kindness and share their successes in showing kindness as the week progresses. Members of the Fairview Express Club will serve as mail carriers who will deliver the letters each morning. All in all, we are excited for a meaningful week starting on December 16th. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
