Ott's Outlook
June 2023
May was filled with end of year celebrations and graduations across the district. Our students may be home for the summer, but our staff is still actively providing extended year services and making preparations for the start of the 2023 - 2024 school year.
We are currently serving 812 elementary students, 450 middle school students, and 771 high school students daily in summer school. These programs range from bilingual enrichment to credit acceleration and recovery opportunities. In conjunction with our community partners, we also have several students participating in STEM camps at Temple College, summer arts programs at the Cultural Activities Center (CAC), and Project Invention for our gifted and talented students.
Throughout June and July, we are providing the free summer feeding program serving both breakfast and lunch to anyone under 18 at various sites across town Mondays - Fridays. Please check the graphic below for times and locations and take advantage of this great opportunity!
While our teachers have been attending professional development training aligned to our district goals and initiatives, the senior leadership team continues to actively monitor this legislative session as we move forward into next year without a decision on school funding at this point. We are currently looking at several different scenarios and projections so that we can be ready regardless of when a decision is made by the state. What I can promise you is that Temple ISD will continue to prioritize people - our students, our staff, and our community - as we move forward with developing a budget. Our people have and always will be our greatest asset and they are who matters the most to us.
We will continue to update you as legislative decisions are finalized throughout the summer. Thank you for your continued support of our school district and the people we serve!
Sincerely,
Bobby Ott
