Happy New Year!
We hope this message finds you all rejuvenated and ready for an exciting new year as we welcome back our Star family from a well-deserved winter break! The halls of Centennial are buzzing with energy as we dive into the second half of the school year. We've got a lineup of engaging events, inspiring lessons, and memorable moments planned to make the rest of the school year extraordinary for our students. There are some fun activities planned for the month of January upon students' return. Refer to calendar snippet for more details!
Reminder: Semester 1 ends on January 12th, check with your student and their teachers to ensure assignments have been submitted and get any information regarding extra credit. Tutoring is available for students that need assistance with improving grades, see attached flyer for additional information.
Also, keep in mind that students will not be in attendance January 15-17.

Star Spotlight ✨
To allow our Centennial families to get to know more about the achievements of Star students, we will be highlighting a different student in our weekly newsletters. They will have an opportunity to share some fun facts about themselves as well as convey of their most recent accomplishments.

Mariam Seck
Meet our extraordinary Star of the week, Mariam Seck! This exceptional individual has consistently demonstrated a passion for learning, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude that radiates throughout the entire school community. Join us in celebrating their achievements and getting to know her future goals.
Q: What sports do you participate in, and how did you become involved in them?
A: I participate in Track and Field. I started my freshman year running track until my junior year I started throwing shot put and discus. I joined track because I wanted to be apart of a community and program that valued self discipline, respect and accomplishment
Q: What are your future academic or career aspirations?
A: In my future, I will study film in college and education. I want to work in the film industry as a film director, producer, writer, and actress. I want to study education to get a doctorate in film so I can also be a professor at a film school or HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities)
Q: If you could choose one word to describe your high school experience so far, what would it be and why?
A: My high school experience in one word is “rapid “. Everything flew by so fast but I’m glad I was so involved with my school. I am dedicating this last year to taking risk and making memories.
Centennial Feeder Night
Interested in preparing your middle school or high school student for high school? Join us on January 19th for our 2024 Feeder Night! Information will be provided for the various academic clubs and sporting events that Centennial offers. There will be a raffle drawing, interactive halftime show with cheerleaders, and giveaways!

College Credit Plus Information Session
Join us at West High School on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 for an information session on how your student can participate in College Credit Plus courses. This meeting is mandatory for ALL students taking CCP courses, regardless if it's taken on the college campus, online, or in your high school. Attending the informational meeting must be completed yearly along with submitting the Letter of Intent. Use the link below to register.

Academic & Graduation Information
January 20th FAFSA Workshop
Ever wondered how to navigate the financial side of college? Join us on January 20th for an upcoming FAFSA workshop where the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is explained and someone will provide a walk-through of the entire process. Discover how this crucial step opens doors to financial assistance, scholarships, and grants, making higher education more accessible.
FAFSA workshop will be located at Columbus Africentric Early College - 3223 Alleghany Ave. at 9:30am. Light breakfast will be served! Registration is required using the following link: https://form.jotform.com/IKIC1988/2024-scholarship-workshop-r
SME Education Foundation Scholarship Criteria:
- Must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States or Canada , or have a U.S. or Canadian student visa.
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Must be pursuing associates, bachelors, or graduate degree in manufacturing, engineering, or related field.
- Open to high school seniors or current college students.
- Students can be part time or full time to be eligible.
- Must be attending a University or Community College in the United States or Canada.
Everything You Need To Know About Staying On Track To Graduate
Step 1: Successfully earn credit for 21 courses (4 math, 4 English, 3 Social Studies, 3 Science, 1 Fine Arts, 1 Technology, 1 Adv. SS or Sci, .5 PE, .5 health, 3 general electives) plus 1 credit for 120 internship hours.
Step 2: Demonstrate Competency: By earning certain scores on state or national tests.
Step 3: Show Readiness by earning seals that exemplify your student's expertise in at least 2 academic areas out of a possible of 12.
