Gallatin High Update
Week of January 25-29, 2021
Easy Button for Canvas
We are excited to share that we have created a user friendly guide to each GHS teacher's Canvas page. Please check out our new Guide To Each Teacher's Canvas Page button on our GHS home page. If you want a quick way to find the schedule for the week, a list of student assignments, etc., the answers are a couple of clicks away. A link to this guide can also be found on our school website.
Students in Frau Hanks' German class participate in an ice breaker with students in person and at home.
Students in Chris Montano's English class prepare to read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
Working on chemistry looks like fun.
Parking and Student Drop-Off Reminder
We have significant concerns about the traffic flow and safety in our student parking lot. In order to alleviate congestion and make it safer for our students to park and walk to class, please only use the eastern parking lot and Annie Street for student drop off. Only students intending to park for the school day should be driving through the west lot.
Speech and Debate
Speech and Debate meets feel different this year because they are all virtual. This past weekend our Raptor Speech and Debate team competed in the state tournament. We had a strong finish for our first year and finished in the top half of the competition. Several Gallatin High students finished in the top ten in their events.
Ritu Bajwa and Maxwell Defanti - 4th place in Public Forum Debate
Emma Baumgardner - 6th place in Informative Speaking
Rhianna Ashcraft - 7th place in Humorous Interpretation
One-to-One Planning and Roll-Out
The Chromebooks are now en route to Gallatin High School. We hope to start checking them out to students in the next week or so. If you have not yet completed the Chromebook permission form, please do so as soon as possible.
Academic Support Center
Do your students need help writing a paper for class? Maybe they have ideas, but they can’t get them organized; maybe they have their main points, but they can’t get the essay to flow. The Academic Support Center (ASC) is there to help. Do your students need help understanding a math concept; do they seem to understand the content in their homework but when it comes to tests, they can’t seem to remember the strategies for solving the problem? The ASC is there to help. Do your students need help sorting through their notes or synthesizing content? The ASC wants to come alongside them. ASC is staffed every period with a teacher who would love to help your students with their academic needs. We invite them to come by room A183 - across from the library - and check it out. We will now be setting up appointments for Wednesday afternoons for in-person tutoring or ask them to just drop in from 1:00-4:00. Students can sign up for an appointment via the Library Hub on Canvas (or use this link: ASC Appointment Calendar) or come to the room and write their name in a time slot on a poster by the door. ASC is here to help your students have a successful second semester.
