PRINCIPAL AND VICE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
I hope this letter finds you and your families in good health. It has been an incredible week. I spent my evening last night watching a recap of the Presidential Inauguration. I was in awe of Amanda Gorman and her poetic talents, especially at such a young age. Her poem spoke to so many hearts in our nation and around the world. I was also moved by the momentous occasion of having our first woman, the first Black American and the first South Asian American to be elected Vice President. The hope this must give to all our students as the historical barriers to success are beginning to fade. I also feel a sense of hope when I see our teachers giving it their all over Zoom, and when I see our students engaging in more difficult academic tasks successfully. I know that we are nowhere near the end of these difficult times, but I do know that we are moving closer to a life filled with hugs instead of distance and one where we will once again get the chance to learn together safely.
You may have heard that Governor Brown has changed the metrics and made them advisory. While I do not have any specifics about the return to school, I imagine more information will be available in the weeks to come. Please be on the lookout for District communication on both the district website and in your email.
We have over 180 students signed up for our Bonny Slope Pen Pal program! Pen Pal packets with information, postage, and supplies may be picked up tomorrow, Friday, from 7:30 AM-4:00 PM. We are hoping that this activity will help students feel more connected to a peer while learning remotely. Tiffany Rodgers (our school counselor) is leading this charge. If you have any questions, Tiffany can be reached at tiffany_rodgers@beaverton.k12.or.us. Additionally, students are invited to grade-level lunch bunches. Information about what day each grade level meets can be found in the Counselor section of this Paw Prints.
As our District faces uncertain budgetary times, it is looking for input from parents about priorities for spending. You will find a short video and a survey to share your thoughts here:

Finally, next week Jim Hiller and I will be hosting a Principal Chat at 6:00 PM on January 26th right before the BSCO Community meeting at 7:00 PM. (We will send out the link for the Principal Chat next week to the Bonny Slope community.) We are looking forward to seeing you!
Wishing you and your families much happiness, learning and health.
Janet Maza and Jim Hiller
