Mariner Memo
May 17, 2019
Wow, what a week! The weather seems to be finally warming up and Spring is hopefully here to stay! Around the building, it was another full week of learning and end-of-year activities.
On Tuesday night was the annual ECSD Honors Awards at the PAC. This yearly event features the "Top 10" by GPA in grades 6-12 each secondary school in the district. This special night brings together the district for a special night of celebration and is quite the "honor" to be a part of.
Wednesday night the Performing Arts Center belonged to us, as Marine City Middle hosted our school awards. This year was fantastic as all of the great things that our students work for were recognized on the big stage of the PAC. I would like to thank all of the students and families that attended this event. I would like to especially point out how amazing it was to see all of our students dressed up and smiling with a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Pictures below.
Thursday brought a different kind of learning for our 8th grade class, as they packed up and headed to St. Clair Community College, for a day of discovery into the programs and options that SC4 can offer. It is never too early to start thinking about career pathways and areas of interest and students learned about the wide offerings available in our own backyard.
After school Friday, the PTO hosted and ran the first annual Marine City Dodgeball Tournament. In total, 19 5-person teams completed in an action packed double-elimination tournament in the gym. Many thanks go out to the PTO and the high school honor society students that volunteered their time for this fun event. In total, this two and half hour event raised over $500 for our school and that's fantastic! Our eventual champions were the Toe-Pounders, who will face the a team of staff members, in front of the whole school on June 5th! The dodgeball tournament was a perfect ending to a chaotic and action-packed week.
Next week promises to be just as fun.
Have a great weekend,
-Mr. Ming
Moving Up Ceremony
- Marine City HIGH School Moving Up, Friday, May 24th: this is a high school assembly that features and recognizes the achievements of the MCHS Seniors. MCMS has a very small role in this assembly in that our 8th graders march into the gym. Since this is all about the seniors, there is very limited space available for this event.
- Marine City MIDDLE School Moving Up, Wednesday, June 5th: this is a middle school event that takes place during the last full week of school during 6th hour, 1:30-2:24. We will have our final P2 celebration, our annual staff vs. student boys basketball game, and our first ever staff vs. student champion dodgeball game. At the end of the assembly, we move our 8th grade to the floor and send them on their way (to get ice cream) as the rest of the school takes their new spots in the bleachers.Parents are invited to attend this event if they would like.

Positive Rewards at MCMS
Each Friday 10 students are chosen for the eligibility list to play a little Plinko and win a prize. To be eligible for this drawing students needed to have zero missing assignments for the week. For the month of May (picture featured next week) students will need to be passing all 6 classes. This program is designed to remind students that good things come to those that work hard and stay the course. Well done students!
