1970's

In the 70's, there was stagflation. Nixon opened relations with China. People started Earth Day to conserve energy. The Watergate scandal made citizens wonder on what to believe.

Stagflation (Economic)

High inflation and high unemployment.

America and China have diplomatic and economic relations with each other. This ends the country's resentment towards each other.

People save energy by not using electricity for an entire day. This started because people wanted to protect the environment.

Watergate (Political)

Nixon tried to cover up a burglary of the Democratic National Committee. He denied to show the tapes for a while. When he did show it, it had about 15 minutes of it removed.

In the 80's, Reaganomics and the Reagan Doctrine were made. The Iran-Contra Affair happened, and Bill Gates created one of the most used inventions of all time.

Reaganomics (Economic)

(1) budget cuts, (2) tax cuts, (3) increased defense spending. Massive tax cuts would encourage personal savings and investment.

In the 90's, Panama was invaded, President Bush broke his promise of "Read My Lips, No New Taxes." There was an economic recovery, and the Family and Medical Leave Act was passed.

U.S. invades Panama to overthrow military dictator Manuel Noriega, who had been accused in the United States on drug trafficking charges and was accused of stopping democracy in Panama and endangering U.S. nationals.
