Friday Mail
What's Happening Week of September 17, 2018
We are getting into the routine of being back in school. It's starting to feel more like Fall.
This has been an exciting and positive week around St. Anna's. I've continued reading the book "One" to classes to kick off our Everyone Counts theme. We've talked about being KIND to each other and how to stand up for ourselves and our friends.
I've been busy with Good News Calls of the Day to celebrate all the great things our students do, especially when they are displaying the values we look for in our students. Students and parents are excited to get these positive phone calls home.
This was also our second week of Positive Sign Thursday to spread the love every Thursday morning as students arrive at school. This week they were all Amazing and we even had Bruno Mars playing 'amazing just the way you are' as they came into the lobby.
I can't forget Find A Friend Friday to encourage our students to find someone new to talk to, sit with, play with or eat lunch with. Our school is filled with amazing children and we want them to get to know each other and someone new each week that maybe they don't talk to as much as their close friends.

The Back to School BBQ is Friday!!!!
This year's theme is "Beach Blast Bonanza!
It has become tradition to have an out of dress day at school the same day - Come dressed in your Hawaiin Shirts and beach gear... I am imagining a few (appropriate) grass skirts, your favorite beach destination t-shirt, sunglasses, bucket hats, anything that says ready for the beach (except your swim suits... no ocean, lake or pools to dive into at school)
Dinner tickets (Chicken, Cheeseburger and Hotdog) available in the school office. You can also print and send in the Ticket Order Form or just send a note with your check indicating how many of each type of ticket you would like. MONDAY is the LAST Day to place your order and there are very limited tickets available at the door and we sell until we are sold out... Please plan accordingly.
We are also looking for a few more volunteers to help with serving and clean up. This is a great opportunity for alumni or our NJHS Students! - sign up here- or contact Carrie Piemarini
September 19th
Wednesday, September 19th is an EARLY Release Day.
ALL students get out of school at 11:30.
Extended Care is open but you must let us know you would like to use EC that day. It is $35 for the afternoon. Please pack a lunch for your student.
There are busses that day.
Design Squad
Design Squad is open to students in Grades 3-8 and is a chance for students to be introduced to the concepts of engineering and chemistry. Past engineering challenges include building a circuit, designing a kicking machine and building a wiggle bot. We are in the planning phase for our fall event to be held on November 17th, from 12pm to 4pm in the school gym. This program is successful thanks to all of our volunteers which include parents, grandparents and parents of St. Anna alumni. Students are placed in teams of 4-5 and we like to have one volunteer for each group to help guide the students as they brainstorm and work together to accomplish the task.
If you are interested in volunteering, have ideas for projects or for more information about the program, please contact Mrs. Laura Pompei.

St. Anna's Women's Bible Study
Matthew: The King and His Kingdom
This exciting study by Ascension Press brings the Gospel to life and draws you closer to Christ. You will see Jesus as the awaited Messiah who fulfills the promises and prophecies of the Old Testament, establishes the New Law, and inaugurates the Kingdom of Heaven. Set in the rich context of Jesus’ life, Matthew shows us who Jesus is and what his life and teachings mean for us today.
The study begins Friday, Sept. 28 and runs throughout the school year. We will meet in the Church Hall from 9-11 on Friday mornings.
Please contact Pascale Traylor for registration information at mptraylor@gmail.com, or 978-870-7683

Nurse Notes:
ALL students who will participate in a sport (Cross Country, Cheerleading, Basketball) MUST have a physical on file giving them permission to participate in sports. Students will not be allowed to practice until we have the appropriate physical on file.
Mrs. Katrina Couture is our school nurse. She works for the Leominster Department of Public Health and is at St. Anna School daily from 11:40-12:40. We are also fortunate to have retired nurse Mrs. Maryanne Capistrano volunteer in the health office daily as well.

Homework Club is back! 3:15-4:30 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays on full school days. Students will go to the supervising teacher's classroom to work on their homework. The teacher will help them if needed. Students will have access to their chromebooks. Students can get picked up at 4:30 or go to extended care. Our intention is to give students a quiet space to do their homework after school. This will be beneficial to those that usually go to extended care and want to finish their homework before playing and for those that might need a little more support and structure to complete their homework. Students need to let their teacher know during attendance if they are staying after for homework club or let Mrs. Priddy know at lunch time. We need to make sure everyone has a ride home. Students who are signed up to go to Homework Club need to STAY at homework club until their ride arrives unless they are also signed up to go to Extended Care following Homework Club.
Donations Needed
- Baby Wipes (we have a few classrooms that require lots of hand wiping to prevent the spread of allergens in the rooms)
- BIG Cardboard boxes... Mrs. Thomas is getting ready for the Mother-Son Nerf War that will take place in March and she's collecting boxes between now and then to be used for walls and barriers
- Hula Hoops- Lots of fun new games we can do with a few more Hula Hoops...
Parking Lot = Playground
We are trying to keep recess, outdoor gym AND extended care safe for our students.
It is unfortunate that our playground is also our parking lot and the safety of our students has to be our priority. The parking lot is closed for recess daily from 11:00-1:00 and 1:30-1:45. It is frequently closed for gym classes in the afternoons from 12:45-3:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
You will also notice that we are trying to close the parking lot in the afternoons when many of the extended care students are outside playing from 3:45-4:45. If you are picking up from extended we ask that you park across the street and walk down to extended (just think of all the steps you'll get in). The parking lot will not be closed when there's inclement weather.
After School programs will dismiss from the front Lancaster Street doors- so we ask that you plan to park across the street and pick up at the front doors- unless it is really raining out and then we can have dismissal at the lobby.
We appreciate your patience and feedback as we try this to keep all of our students safe and utilize our playground area.
