Ms. Borgert's Weekly Buzz

Notes from the teacher
Hello parents!
What a busy week we had this week! Tutu Tuesday, Global Day of Play, half day, Family STEAM Night! What a great week! Be on the lookout by the end of next week for a Winter Data Sheet letting you know how your child has done on a couple recent assessments, the winter NWEA scores, and any specific items to work on if needed! Please continue to have your child practice sight words and to read simple Consonant/Vowel/Consonant words( ie. CAT, FAR, MAN etc). Reading fluency will continue to improve knowing the sight words and being able to blend sounds together to make words!
- Our Valentine’s Day Party is this coming Friday from 1:45-2:45! We are still in need of parent volunteers to help the party run smoothly for our class! Please email our room parent, Lindsey Miller ldmiller14@hotmail.com if you are able to help out! If your student is interested in exchanging Valentines please send him or her with enough Valentines for everyone in the class (24) starting this Monday. Have your student sign their name to their Valentines and leave the front of the envelope blank. This simplifies the passing out process. No candy or food items may be included in Valentines due to food allergies.
- Do you have any empty cardboard boxes lying around? If so, please send them into our class so we can use our imaginations and create and build with them! Shoe boxes, little boxes, medium boxes....even a large refrigerator box..... We could create with all different sizes!
Thank you so much to those of you who sent in snack donations! That will be so helpful to have them on hand on days where snacks may be forgotten!
Have a wonderful week!
Mystery Reader
Thank you Mrs. Stock for coming in this morning to read to us! We loved having you!
If you haven't signed up yet to be a mystery reader, there are still many days open through the end of the year. The students get so excited when they find out it is Mom or Dad (or anyone else they know!). Please sign up by browsing for available Fridays this school year at http://vols.pt/nGGNUB. Remember if Friday at 10:30 doesn't work or the day that you want is taken and you really really want to come in, just email me and we will work out a time that works for you! :)

Pennies for Patients
Thank you thank you thank you to all of you who have donated to our school wide Pennies for Patients fundraiser! I am amazed at how much money we raised in our classroom alone this week. The most touching part for me is seeing how excited the students are to put their change in the bag! They understand that they are helping to save lives of those affected by leukemia and lymphoma. I don't know our exact amount yet, but I am estimating that so far we have raised at least $150 already in our classroom alone! Very exciting and touching! Donations are still being accepted through next Friday, the 12th, so if you find any other spare change, feel free to send it. You could also donate on our classroom page at: http://events.lls.org/pages/in/ThorpeCreekElementarySchool/MsBorgertKindergarten
