Principal's Perspective
This week's weather certainly had us thinking about springtime as we head into March! We also got to meet a bunch of our incoming kindergarten friends last night at Little Maple Leaf Night. I want to give a special shout out to our Impact Ambassadors in 3rd and 4th grade for helping at LMLN. You were such great leaders!
We're also a week away from our annual Maple Glen carnival! Next Saturday our school will be transformed into a fun carnival atmosphere with games, food, and friends! The silent auction will also open up next week, so be on the lookout for a link to some fun items.
As a reminder from a previous newsletter, you may receive an attendance letter from the school alerting you to the frequency of your child's absences and/or tardies, especially if there are more than 7 absences. School attendance is strongly correlated with school and life success and because of this it is the legal duty of schools to track and record attendance of students. Our handbook provides additional information about our school board adopted attendance policy should you have further questions. Please know that if you've notified the office and/or provided doctor's notes for absences this is more of an informative letter and not anything you need to take action with. Our goal is to bring awareness and help support students as best as possible with school attendance.
Enjoy your weekend!
In partnership,
Mary Beth

Maple Glen Lego Competitive Team
Hello Maple Glen 3rd & 4th Graders!
You are invited to apply for the Maple Glen Lego House Builders Competitive Team! Westfield elementary schools are hosting the 4th annual competition. This is separate from the Lego Robotics Team that has already been established. The goals of this experience are to learn about the structure of a house, as well as the house-building process, and to work collaboratively with a partner. At most sessions, we will have a professional from the home-building field speak to us. We will then transfer those concepts to build a house out of Legos. At the competition, students will work in teams of two students to build a house that meets specific criteria within a timed 45-minute session. There is no cost. Participation includes a commitment to attend every practice and competition.
Applications are due Friday, March 3!

Lunch Visitors at MGES
We are opening up the opportunity for family members to join their child/children for lunch! For student safety and to accommodate our limited cafeteria seating, we are allowing our families to visit once a trimester. To be prepared for our guests and to check the Safe Visitor Registration of incoming visitors (this is required for every visitor) please make sure you register 24 hours in advance.
We allow 5 visitors per grade level lunch. Please use one slot per person signing up. Due to limited space, visitors will be sitting with their child(ren) at their classroom tables. You have the option of bringing in a home packed lunch or purchasing a lunch at school. No fast food will be allowed at this time. Lunch menus can be found here. The price for an adult lunch is $4.70.

Join the WWS Team!
Westfield Washington Schools is committed to meeting the needs of each student. The best way to accomplish our mission and vision is to ensure that every position in the district is filled with a caring individual dedicated to ensuring each student learns and grows. Being part of a dynamic team, working to ensure each student achieves their full potential is inspiring and energizing. Applying and working as an Instructional Assistant (IA) in one of our schools is an excellent career choice for individuals who would like to make a profound difference in the lives of children. All nine schools currently have open IA positions. We offer full-time and part-time positions. Our IA positions allow parents to work during their students' school schedule - thus eliminating the need for child care - while directly contributing to the success of their student’s school. We operate at optimal levels when we are fully staffed with IAs.
If you are interested in joining our team, please contact your building principal or assistant principal or click here to apply. If you have any questions about these opportunities, please contact Stacy McGuire, Assistant Director of Human Resources, at mcguires@wws.k12.in.us.
