TRACK MEET for Grades 4 and 5
MCHS will be hosting the Elementary Track Meet for END/SKTA and GHP on Wednesday, May 31st starting at 9:00 am at the MCHS track. SKTA students will be bussing to and from the event.
This day is organized as the culminating activity for the Physical Education Track & Field unit AND to determine who will move on to the SAPEC District Track Meet. All students are expected to participate as it is part of our Physical Education program unless excused for medical reasons.
Please help your child by ensuring that they are dressed appropriately to compete in Track and Field events. Students need to bring water, a hat, sun protection, and perhaps mosquito repellant. Proper athletic footwear is critical and students should have extra/proper clothing in the event of inclement weather. Please ensure that all Field Trip/Permission forms are returned to school by Tuesday, May 30.
NOTE: Students need to pack a lunch BUT will be able to access the snack shack at MCHS to purchase hotdogs or drinks, (cash only).
In the event of inclement weather, events will be the times and measures during regular PE blocks at school.

Breaking Negative Parenting Cycles
Have you ever had one of those “I sound just like my parent” moments? That’s because as kids, we internalize the way our parents handle everything from discipline and conflict resolution to guidance and regulation. When we experience similar situations with our own children, we unconsciously repeat these patterns in times of stress. The result of these experiences depends on how we were raised and can be troubling if there was emotional unavailability, manipulative behaviour, verbal or emotional abuse or neglect in the home.
We all repeat patterns both positive and negative learned in childhood; you are not alone. Try to avoid feeling shame or blaming yourself or others if your childhood has led to negative parenting cycles. If your patterns do not reflect the kind of parent you want to be, you can rewrite these patterns and create new experiences for future generations. But how can we break negative parenting cycles?
Become aware of the patterns and cycles you are repeating from your childhood.
Explore and try different ways to cope with difficult times.
Replace unhealthy patterns with healthy coping strategies.
Learn to regulate and calm yourself before dealing with a tough parenting moment.
These strategies will lead to choosing healthy responses instead of unconsciously reacting and feeding into negative parenting cycles. See Big Life Journal’s guide on “Breaking Cycles as a Parent” for examples of ways you may already be breaking these patterns.
