Race for Education - Labels Due!

In your student's back to school packet, you received information for our Race for Education fundraiser. The label sheet should be completed and turned back in to school by Monday, September 9.

Our Race for Education is set for Friday October 18. The race schedule is as follows:

4th Grade 9:15 am to 9:55

5th Grade 10:00 - 10:40

6th Grade 10:45 - 11:25

Picture Day

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 24th. All students will have their picture taken for school record purposes whether you chose to purchase pictures or not. If you wish to buy pictures, payment envelopes are required the day pictures are taken. If your child misses having his/her picture taken or forgets his/her picture envelope that day, they will have an opportunity to have their picture taken on picture retake day on Wednesday, October 30th.

From the Nurse

We want to remind all parents and guardians of the guidelines set forth in the student handbook regarding transportation of medications:

The parent or a responsible adult is required to deliver all medications to the health room. A child should NEVER bring the medication to the health room by him/herself. All medications must stay in the health room. Any medication that is placed in a plastic bag or container other than the original will not be accepted.

6th Grade Physicals:

Students are required to have a physical before they enter 7th grade. Please be sure to obtain one at some point during the school year and turn it in to the health room.

If there are any questions, regarding anything in this article, please contact our nurse, Kim Hanan. 717-677-3300, opt 2 or k.hanan@upperadams.org

Artists-in Residence (AiR) 2019

The Upper Adams Elementary Fine Arts Team is presenting its annual Artist-in-Residency program from September 23 through October 11 at all three elementary schools. This year’s focus of cultural study is Native Americans. Our Artists-in-Residence are Mary Ann Robins of the Onondaga Nation and Katy and Erica Isennock of the Sicangu Lakota Nation.

The third graders at Biglerville Elementary School and the fourth graders at Arendtsville and Bendersville Elementary Schools will spend time each day with an Artist-in-Residence in their own school. These artists will collaborate with social studies teachers and specialists to provide a background for native cultures, teach dances and make dance props.

The evening showcase program will be Thursday, October 10 in the Biglerville High School auditorium at 7pm. This program will showcase dancing as well as artwork and cultural discoveries from the third and fourth-grade students. The artists-in-residence and their families will also perform various styles of Native American dance. Please plan on joining us for a spectacular evening!

Box Tops for Education

As you may have heard by now, Box Tops for Education is transitioning from clipping out box tops to scanning receipts. Some products will still have box tops that need to be cut out and submitted to the school. Newer products will no longer have to be cut out, but will be accounted for by simply scanning your receipts using the Box Tops for Education app. The scanned box tops will automatically be submitted to the school's account.

As this transition occurs, we are also trying to make sure we can continue our classroom competitions at Bendersville Elementary. In order to do this, you can use a Clip & Scan sheet to record the dates and earnings from scanned receipts OR place cut-out box tops on that paper. Both methods may be turned into your child's classroom teacher.

You can download and print the sheet below:
