From the Principal's Desk
- September was such a fun month with many great activities. We enjoyed a wonderful homecoming week. It’s so great to see everyone showing off their school pride!
- October is a very busy month. We will be having McTeacher night on October 3rd from 4:00-8:00pm. Our local schools will get a portion of McDonald’s proceeds for that evening. Please spread the word to come and join us for dinner that night!
- We will also be celebrating National Walk to School Day on October 4th. We will meet at the corner of McKinsey and 4th street at 8:00 AM. We will walk to South Park to start our day.
- Near the end of the month we will have Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 17th and October 19th. On October 17th conferences will be scheduled from 4:30-7:00. We will have an early out and will be scheduling conferences from 2:00-8:00pm on the 19th. We look forward to meeting with you to talk about your child’s progress.

Research has shown that the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is READING ALOUD TO CHILDREN. Fall is a great time to snuggle together with your child and read a book to them! Here are a few great Fall books you will want to read with your child…
Autumn: An Alphabet Acrostic by Steven Schnur
Autumn Leaves by Ken Robbins
Corn is Maize by Aliki
The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown
Why Do Leaves Change Color? by Betsy Maestro
Does your child get bored with Sight Word Flash Cards? Try this activity…..Write 8 to 10 Sight Words your child can’t read quickly yet on a blank sheet of paper, spacing them out all over the page. Have students dip a bottle cap into some paint, stamp it over the Sight Word that “YOU” call out. They will love searching for the word you say, and getting to “stamp it” with paint! Your child’s teacher can supply you with Sight Words if needed. The Book It! Reading Incentive Program (sponsored by Pizza Hut) begins in October! This is an excellent program designed to inspire your child to develop a love of reading, and to strengthen reading skills by practicing at home. For more information about Book It!, contact your child’s classroom teacher.
