Principal's Pen
Dear Parents and friends
The term is quickly coming to an end -we have 3 weeks left! The rest of term is very busy with lots of activities happening.
Congratulations to everyone who represented our school at SWZ Athletics yesterday. Thanks to Whaea Katy for organising our team and all the parents who helped with transport.
Congratulations to all our school leader candidates for their great speeches!
We offer our prayers and sympathy to Cathy and Dion Criscillo and family on the recent death of Dion's Dad and also to the Pereira family on the death of their uncle. Our thoughts are with you at this time.
We welcome our former student Amber Wilson back as a relieving teacher aide until the end of the year.
We have appointed Micah Sollano to the fixed term position in Kea class for 2023. Micah is a Beginning Teacher who will come out and visit us once her university work finishes. We look forward to having Micah working with us and we are in the process of appointing her .2 Release teacher. Kate Mooney has been appointed as SENCO and she will also continue as the Reading Recovery teacher. We have also appointed Anna Bourke as our ORS specialist teacher.
We would like to thank Gerard Duignan, Alice Paul, Kath Sudfeldt, Richard Marks and Michael McBride for coming in and working with our students as Tutor Readers this year. It has been great to see the progress being made by all the students they have been working with.
On Tuesday 29th November the students will be having their silver reward for showing our school values. This will be a water fight. Please read the weekly email from your child's teacher (this week) for further information.
Health Consultation: Thank you to everyone who sent back their health consultation survey. We are currently collating the results and we will share the results with you once we have finished collating the comments.
RISE Challenge: RISE challenges are due by this Friday 25th November please. This enables me to prepare the certificates for the Prizegiving.
Book Club: Orders close this Friday 25th November. Online orders only please. This is the final issue for this year. Thank you for your support. The orders we put in generate reward points for our school and we are able to purchase books for our school library.
Farewells: We will have a final Assembly at 11am in the church on Thursday 15th December. At this Assembly we will farewell teachers and students (other than Year 8) who are leaving Sacred Heart Petone at the end of this year.

by this Friday 25th November please.

Parking and Crossing the road safely
Thank you to the majority of parents and caregivers who continue to park legally and safely and use the school crossing correctly. Unfortunately our staff and parent patrol supervisors are still witnessing and reporting unsafe parking and road behaviour.
We ask that if children and adults have parked on the opposite side of the road from the school, that you please use the school crossing or the Petone Central School crossing. This is a safety issue and adults need to set the right example for our children.
Please DO NOT park across our neighbours' driveways. Did you know that children have young, healthy legs and are very capable of walking to meet you safely at your vehicle a little further down the road?
Please DO NOT park or wait on the broken yellow lines. This is illegal. It also causes congestion that is hard to navigate for other road users and causes frustration from those who park correctly and legally.
If you are asked to move, please do not be offended. We are out there to ensure all our children get across the road safely.
Absentees, lateness and early pick-ups- a message from Mrs Wilson
If your child is absent, can you please let me know by 9.15am. It is okay to alert the class teacher but you also need to notify me in the office as I collect all attendance twice a day. You can use HERO, the school app, leave a message on the answer phone or send an email.
If your child is late, they need to check in at the office when they arrive and receive a late card. This is for safety reasons so that I know your child is onsite and accounted for.
If you are collecting your child early for any reason, please check in at the office so that I know your child will be off-site.
Thanks.
Lunch Online
Please note that from 9th December, Lunch Online will be stopping for the year.

If you require another order form, please ask at the office.
School Board News - Strategic Plan
Your views on the future direction of Sacred Heart Petone
Every three years the School Board is charged with setting the strategic direction for the school. In order to do that, it's important we hear from our school community about their views.
The Board has put together a series of eight questions to help us understand your views on what the school is doing well, and how we can further support our students and school to succeed.
We want to ensure we can reach as many of you as possible, so we'll be taking these questions to our school community groups, such as the Whānau Support Group, and Pasifika parents group, as well as running an online survey, and posting the questions in the school library where you will be able to write down your answers in person. The consultation runs from 17 November until 9 December.
The Board's policy committee will use the findings from this consultation to form our three-year strategy early next year.
The link to the online survey is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LXCSH7N
If you have any questions about the consultation process, the questions, or have suggestions on other groups we could talk to in our school community, we would love to hear from you. Please email Kate Wright on wright.katelouise@gmail.com or speak to another member of our School Board (Maria Dalope, Helen Mollo, David Prior, Fiona Daniel, Vaka Lemisio, Helen Kneebone, Tiran O'Hagan, Genevieve Hanify, Katy Grant and Liz Heatley).
Please note that the questions are up in the school library. If you would like to look or add your thoughts, please feel free to pop into the school library before and after school.
