Meet Our Staff! All of our teachers at LVMS are amazing and we want you to get to know them a little bit better! Each week we will interview two staff members with some basic questions as well as some questions that were requested by students.
Cathy Evans, ESL Teacher
Where are you originally from? I grew up on a ranch in the Panhandle on the Texas/Oklahoma border, then lived in Amarillo before moving to Lago Vista 17 years ago.
What led you to become a teacher? How long have you been in education? We have lots of teachers in our family, and I always loved playing school and being the teacher. My Grandmother was a teacher, and I wanted to be just like her. This is my 30th year in education!
Tell us about your family. I have 2 amazing children, Angie and Shawn; and 4 awesome grandchildren, Nathan, Peyton, Evan, and Theo. Angie, Peyton, and Evan live in Houston. Shawn, his wife, and Theo live in Denver. My grandson, Nathan, lives in Cedar Park and is a 9th grader at Cedar Park High School. My brother, sisters, and tons of other family members still live in the Panhandle area.
What are your favorite hobbies? I love cooking and reading and think maybe I secretly want to be a chef or write a cookbook! I also enjoy traveling and spending lots of time with my family.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you want to go? I would love to go on an African safari!
Which sport do you enjoy most? I played basketball in high school, but I really love football. We're a huge football family and enjoy watching and going to games together. We've had lots of college football players, coaches, and one of my nephews played for the Dallas Cowboys.
What is your favorite food? I know this sounds boring, but grilled salmon and asparagus is my favorite meal.
Who inspires you and why? I am inspired by my amazing students. I've worked with many of them since they started elementary school, and making a difference in their lives makes my heart sing!
Zackary Fox, 7th Grade Texas History Teacher
Where are you originally from? I am from Gorman, Texas.
What led you to become a teacher? How long have you been in education? Both of my parents are teachers and when growing up I always aspired to follow in their footsteps. I have been in education for 2 years now.
Tell us about your family. I am the youngest of 4 siblings, one of my sisters is also an educator and both of my parents are teachers. We are very close-knit and I am blessed to have such a supportive and loving family.
What are your favorite hobbies? Most of my hobbies are centered around being active. I enjoy playing sports, working out, traveling, hiking, and walking my Great Dane- Zeus Dog.
What was your childhood like? Did you live on a farm? In the city? I grew up in a very small country town, with a population of 1,200 people. As a child I grew up on 50 acres, it was a rare occurrence for me not to be outside playing or exploring and I wouldn’t have wanted to grow up anywhere else.
What is your favorite sport? I can’t narrow it down to one. I’ll say basketball, baseball, and football.
Which class period is your favorite? This is a tough one, if I had to choose I would say my last period of the day with 30 7th grade boys. Easily my most challenging and entertaining class, but it is also my favorite.
Why do you like teaching Texas history? Well, I absolutely love living in the best state in America. So, naturally I always loved learning about how we became that way. To be able to now teach America’s youth about the stories, culture, and people that have defined Texas is a dream for me.
