Memorial Update

Dear Families,
Happy Mother's Day to all of our Memorial moms! We hope that your children spoiled you and that you enjoyed the beautiful sunshine with your children this weekend.
We are well into the swing of a busy month of May. Last week our first and second graders were able to showcase all that they have learned about reading, writing, and sharing information through research reports on animals and various science topics. I am always so amazed and blown away by how poised our young learners are when presenting information publicly. Kudos to our teachers for all they have done to prepare your children to be successful on these end of year projects.
This week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, our third and fourth graders will be taking the math portion of the MCAS exams. We were so proud of the focus and effort that they displayed in April on the ELA exams and we are excited to see the same success this week for mathematics. We are confident that your children are well-prepared and ready to dig into the problem solving and critical thinking that the MCAS will present to them. Please help us by ensuring that your child eats breakfast, or instructing them to get breakfast once at school, and by ensuring that your child is here and ready to start their day by 9:00am. We appreciate the help as we try to set our students up for the highest levels of success.
As a reminder, Specialist Night is coming up next week, on May 25th. If your last name begins with A-M, you will be welcome to attend from 5:00-6:00pm. If your last name begins with N-Z, your time is 6:00-7:00pm. The book fair also will be open that night for families to stock up on summer reading books. So plan on joining us next Thursday night to see all that your children accomplished in their specials this year!
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Wendy and Lauren
MURSD MultiCultural Night! Join in the Fun!
On Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 5:30-7:30pm, we are planning to celebrate the rich diversity of our community with a Mendon-Upton Multicultural Night--Passport to Global Citizenship (formerly known as International Night).
In the past, we have had student performances, sessions where participants can learn new dances, highlights of crafts, history, and culture from different countries, and a selection of food items. This year, we are hoping to expand our options by partnering with the community.
If you would like to participate in the multicultural night by hosting a country table and sharing something special about your culture, bringing a country-inspired food dish or simply donating paper goods, utensils or mini water bottles, please sign up here. Families are welcome to participate through a range of options, such as sharing food, a craft, a story, dance/movement, language, games, music, and more.
Thank you in advance for your support in making this event a success!
