SUICIDE & VIOLENCE PREVENTION WEEK
Bidwell Jr. High School will host a Suicide & Violence Prevention Week September 23 - September 27. A presentation from the school counselors and our targeted case manager will be given on suicide prevention to all 7th grade students. This presentation will be given on Tuesday, September 24th in the library throughout the day in lieu of history classes.
On Friday, September 27th, we will have a school-wide assembly in the gymnasium with guest speaker Kim Carr from #icanhelp. #ican help educates students on cyber safety and more. Forty percent of teens will turn to their friends for help with social media issues. The more we can do to educate and train students, the more successful we will be when dealing with cyber-related issues. To date, #icanhelp has trained over 400,000 students in the United States and Canada with their nationally recognized program. Please check out their website for more information.
Throughout the week, we will have individuals from various community agencies on campus to hand out resources and answer questions during lunchtime regarding suicide and violence prevention. Material and video used in this curriculum are available for review in the counseling office.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lisa Winslow, Melanie Skelly, or Sandra Villasenor in the counseling office.
Sincerely,
Dave McKay, Principal
Laurie DeBock, Assistant Principal
Sandra Villasenor, School Counselor
Melanie Skelly, School Counselor
Lisa Winslow, School Counselor

CHARACTER STRONG
We believe that education should help to create young people who are not only competent in math, science, and reading – but also students who are compassionate, empathetic, and kind. Our Character, like any other muscle in our body, can get stronger with intentional, consistent practice. Most people fundamentally want to BE good, but not all of us know how to DO good. CharacterStrong helps the people forge meaningful relationships, build positive community, focus on social-emotional learning, and develop character.
The weekly dares are part of this process and are taught weekly during Primetime. Please ask your kids about their dares at home and encourage them to take part to make Bidwell a great place where everyone belongs.
Dare to be taught on 9/24: Kindness Ninja
Write 5 positive notes with an inspiring message. Leave each of them in a different place without others knowing!
Think about a place or a person that needs some positive reminders, and leave a little note of encouragement without them seeing you. Finding these little notes can turn somebody’s day around. If you can’t think of any inspiring messages, search online for “inspirational quotes” and pick some you like.
