Language Arts
This week we will be looking at two texts that were written by Robert Munsch to compare how they are similar and different. The following week we will read Miss Rumphius in conjunction with Earth Day which is April 22nd. We have also looked at prefixes and suffixes and how they change the meaning of the root word.
Math
Our current unit is measurement. The students have used Cheezits in class to find the perimeter and area of an object. We are currently learning liquid measurement using both standard and metric units. Students will also learn how many quarts, pints, and cups make a gallon. Our knowledge of measurement will be put to use at our Measurement Olympics on the 26th.
Science
Spring time means new life and we will be doing just that when we grow our own butterflies. The students will get to see the full life cycle of a butterfly in class. This is a fun few weeks as we watch caterpillars turn into a pupa, and then into a butterfly.
Fun at the Outdoor Learning Center
We had a wonderful time on our field trip to the Outdoor Learning Center. Students were able to hike the trails and look for plants and how they adapt in nature. We also were able to see a variety of animals and look for structures that help them. Students also went into the greenhouse to see the life cycle of a butterfly in process. We enjoyed lunch at the park and playing on the equipment before heading back to school. It was a great experience.
