Thursday's Thoughts

September 10, 2015

This year, we are facing both SLO implementation and AdvancEd accreditation. My hope is to make both of these as easy for you as possible so that your time and energy can be spent on your students. When I look at what we need to do to complete your SLO's, the work that has to be done by all of us for AdvancEd, and the reading training we will go through this year, I see a lot of time meeting together. Fortunately for us, Mrs. Harrison offered to get subs for you so that we can complete this work during the school day. While you will miss time with your students, this will be the best way to complete all that needs to be completed. Our plan is to get you subs for a 1/2 day at a time. During this time together, we will work on SLO's, complete committee work for AdvancEd, and receive training for reading. We will also use this time for our K & M meetings as well. Our hope is to streamline this for you so that we cover a lot without taking planning or having many after school meetings. A tentative schedule is below for our first half day session. Let me know if you see issues with the date and time for your grade level/subject area.

I hope you know how much I value all that you do every day at school, the many hours you spend at home working on school work, and the time you spend here on the weekends preparing for your kids. This does not go unnoticed! You are truly the best!

September 28th - Professional Development Day

For the Professional Development Day on September 28th, we will meet from 8:00-9:30ish for work on SLO's. You will have the remainder of the day to work in your rooms!

Essential 1

We will begin our first essential Monday. Please discuss this with your students, praise them when they practice this essential, and give house points.

1st Essential:

When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying "Yes ma'am" or "No sir." Just nodding your head or saying any other form of yes or no is not acceptable.

Classroom Schedules

If you have not printed your schedule and placed it outside of your door, please do so. Thank you!

MAP Testing

Please be patient next week as we begin MAP testing. Other schools are experiencing problems with the testing this week. We hope all of the issues will be resolved before we begin testing. Please make sure you have talked with you children about this test and the importance of working hard. Donna has been preparing all classes and letting them know that they will not know the answers to every question. Either Matt or myself will be in the lab with each class. Since you are preparing your kids, you do not have to stay with your classes for testing unless you would like to do so. I know they will work hard for us while they are in the lab.

Isibindi is in the lead!

We are going to have a house lunch tomorrow. When you drop your classes off in the lunchroom (duty free lunch tomorrow), you will see that the tables are decorated by color. Students will sit with other students from their house. The schedule will remain the same and the music will still play. I can't wait for our first house lunch!

From Stacey:

Please continue to assess using F & P. Our goal to finish with fall testing is Sept. 18th. I know some of you may need a little longer to finish.

Don't forget to sign up for the Edmodo group for our book study. All of the lesson plan templates for guided reading are located in the group.

I so appreciate Katie, Matt, Lori and Becky for being willing to help me with the reading contest kick off activities!

A HUGE thank you to Sheila Daughtry and Katie Wesolek for donating books for our prizes yesterday.
