Smarter Balanced Testing Next Week for Juniors
Just a reminder that Smarter Balanced (SBAC) assessments continue next week for any 11th grader that did not test in April and who have not signed an opt out. Our students’ participation in this testing gives us valuable data about the performance of our school and helps us better understand our students’ strengths and learning gaps. Please encourage your student to do their best. Students should eat a healthy breakfast and get plenty of sleep the night before so they can be at peak performance. Any assigned student that misses a test, will need to take it during a make up session. Directions for students that need to test have been sent to student and guardian email addresses. If you have questions, visit the office Monday morning.
Testing is scheduled for:
Monday 5/16
Tuesday 5/17
Thursday 5/19
Summer School Update
Dear Ashland Families,
This summer, the Ashland School District will be offering an opportunity to make up credits missed over the 2021-2022 school year. The program will consist of two sessions, each 3-weeks long (Session 1 runs July 11th-28th and Session 2 runs Aug 1st-18th). Classes will be held from Monday through Thursday during the times listed below. Attendance is mandatory to get full credit.
Students can make up three credits per session for classes in which they previously received either an F or an INC.
Depending on interest, we will offer math and reading "bridge" courses for 8th-grade students who previously struggled with mathematics or English/ Language Arts. These classes are not meant for students who received "Mastery" grades in reading, writing, and math, but rather those who have struggled historically with those subjects.
Transportation is available upon request, and lunch will be available for purchase. Enrollment for summer programs closes Friday, May 20th. You will be notified of your child's session placement by May 27th so that you can plan your summer!

The teen years can be a tumultuous period in many households. Our current tweens and teens are navigating both normal developmental milestones, and challenges unique to their generation and the impact of the pandemic.
During these important years, your child will encounter exciting opportunities for growth and learning as their focus shifts to peer acceptance and establishing relationships outside of the home.
In order to support healthy maturation and resilient young adults, it is important to evolve our parenting styles. In this workshop we will focus on:
- Communication strategies
- Holding boundaries
- Supporting self-regulation (managing emotions)
- The value of support systems outside of the home
Session One: Tuesday May 10, 6:00-7:30
1) Developmental stage of teens in the context of their home and social environment
2) Frameworks that can guide and support appropriate and positive interactions
3) Simple strategies of holding boundaries and expectations without engaging in patterns of conflict
Session Two: Tuesday, May 17, 6:00-7:30
1) Communication styles that align our intentions with the impacts of our caregiving
2) Self-care practices that support productive and functional conversations
Session Three: Tuesday, May 24, 6:00-7:30
1) Strategies of support that “lighten the load” on parents
2) Long term structures that prepare our teens to launch into their post high school paths
3) Tools of evaluation and assessment to support staying connected to your teen’s progress
