Turkeys Galore!

Chilly Greetings!

Brrrr....who turned off the heat?! I don't know about you all, but I am not a fan of cold...or snow. My apologies to all my skiers, ice skaters, snowmobilers (I really am one of these!), snow showers, etc...but I really am a fan of being warm! These last couple of days have definitely felt like winter, so I send you all warm, toasty wishes!

While we are on this cold, winter is that time of the year to start sending in hats, mittens, scarves, boots, snow pants and warm jackets. Hats and mittens are famous for pulling off the most mysterious of disappearing acts; please make sure your kiddo's name is in/on winter items, boots included! It gets real interesting when identical boot sets show up. Once snow starts piling up, kiddos will not be allowed to play in the snow unless they have boots, snow pants and other cold weather gear. If you would like your child to keep his/her snow pants at school, please shoot me an email or note letting me know! I also highly recommend dressing your kiddo in layers as well. Sometimes Room 124 can be super warm, other times Room 124 can be rather cool.

I hope homework has been manageable for you all! I have received some wonderful work and am really impressed with the quality. I will apologize for any mix up last week with Spelling City! I started to put new words in - the site crashed - and guess who forgot to go back later and finish addressing the changes?? Yup, this teacher! All new words should be entered in for this week.

Over Thanksgiving break, I will not send home spelling homework, however, I will expect kiddos to access RaZKids (or just read books!). I will send home a reading log for vacation weeks. Also, IXL and XtraMath are sites where math can be worked on over vacations. If you asked me to choose one math site over the other, I think XtraMath is better at addressing math facts - so go there. For those who do not or will not have access to internet over vacations, I will also be sending home a set of flash cards for you to keep at home for practice. Ten minutes a night will make a huge difference in your child's automatic recall.

Big and exciting events coming up this week - Grandparents Lunch!! I am very excited to meet more family members and witness the sweet relationships between our firsties and the grands! Enjoy the rest of your weekends!

It's a little delayed.....but check out the pumpkin fun!

Giving Thanks to Those Who Have Served

This year our classroom has been making cards around the holidays for a local veterans home. We have made scary Halloween cards and written letters thanking our veterans for serving our country, keeping us safe and free. It's been a great opportunity for us to learn about the parts of a letter and how to write a letter.

On Monday, we will spread the Thanksgiving love with a little turkey project.

To those in our Room 124 family who have served or are currently serving, thank you!

Literacy Happenings

We have been busy adding more sight words to our word banks, continuing our work with short vowels, learning about digraphs and blends and strengthening our reading strategies! Check out a few of the pictures and blurbs below. I hope this information can help you all at home to understand the language and vocabulary!

Math Fun

We have unpacked counting on and counting back as our strategies for adding and subtracting. We are working on both addition and subtraction. Just this past week, we have begun working with fact families. Fact Families have three numbers. Each family has two addition equations and two subtraction equations. These are tricky, because not just ANY number can be part of the family!
