September 24 Edition
How can we increase student effort in the classroom?
Check out the brief video below that reminds us that it takes a combination of strategies to maintain high student effort in your classroom.
Family Literacy Night: Monday, Sept. 24 6:30-8:00 p.m.
This is a reminder that Family Literacy Night is Monday evening. This is a required evening for Language Arts and Social Studies. Related Arts teachers may choose to attend the Literacy Night or the Family Math and Science Night in January.
College Go Week: Sept. 24-28th
This week is College Go Week! This aligns perfectly with the 8th grade JobSpark Field trip as they been exploring possible career paths in advance of high school scheduling. It also important to remind all students to be thinking about their futures. Take opportunites when applicable to discuss your college experiences and how they shaped you.
To bring recognition to the week, students and staff may wear College t-shirts or sweatshirts (no hoodies) every day next week. The exceptions are students attending the Beef n Boards choir trip (nicer dress) and 8th grade students going to JobSpark on Wednesday, they will be wearing their JobSpark shirts.
Staff may wear jeans on each day they wear a college shirt/sweatshirt.
JobSpark Field Trip: Wednesday a.m.
All 8th graders will be attending the JobSpark field trip on Wednesday. We will wait for all buses to arrive before we begin our release (Estimated time would be 8:45 a.m.) Admin will go door-to-door to release classes to begin boarding buses.
Parent/Teacher conference Planning
Teachers:
This is a reminder to grab your materials from the teacher work room to begin preparing stuents for conferences. There is a Conference check list to help guide you in making sure you are staying on schedule with the preparation.
Extended Day Meeting On Wednesday
This is a reminder that we will be having our extended day meeting this Wednesday from 2:50-3:50 p.m. in the LGI room. We will be continuing our journey on PLC's and looking at addressing the important question: "What will we teach?" This part of the journey will revolve at looking at a specific standard and "unpacking it" to create specific learning targets and begin planning.
Term 1 Grades Due Wednesday by 5:00 p.m.
The window for the term 1 deadline will close on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 5:00 p.m. Report Cards will be given out at Parent Teacher Conferences on Oct. 2.
Fundraiser Dance: Friday, Sept. 28th
For our fundraiser, students were promised a dance/open gym if they sold two items or more. We will make good on that promise this Friday in the W. Gym. We have around 55 students eligible for the dance (list will be out on Wednesday). We will make a PA announcement for those students at 1:10 p.m for them to come to the W. Gym. They will return to their class for the last 10 minutes of the day to gather any assignments.
