Message From the Principal
As you may have heard, the El Paso region has met parameters set by the Department of Public Health to begin safely bringing students to school. #TeamSISD will begin phasing in on-campus instruction beginning Tuesday, September 8.
Between September 8 and September 18, students with extenuating circumstances will be allowed on campus to use school computers and internet. While they will be supervised by Ituarte staff, they will NOT be in the classroom with their teacher.
Beginning September 8, students who have been unable to participate in live instruction due to lack of internet or technology will be the first to be invited on campus. Parents of these students will be contacted by the end of this week.
Beginning September 14, a limited number of students whose families have extenuating circumstances may return to campus to also use school computers and internet. Parents who wish to have their child considered to be part of this group can click here.
Beginning September 28, students whose parents opted for the traditional/hybrid model on the Parent Scheduling Survey will return to their campuses to receive in-person instruction by their classroom teachers.
All safety measures such as social distancing, wearing a mask, and cleaning of frequently touched surfaces will be followed to ensure the health of our Knights. However, please rest assured that all parents also have the option to have their children remain off campus and continue remote instruction.

Student Grades
Know that for attendance purposes, students must submit work by the end of the same school day. Students not submitting evidence of school work by 11:59 pm of the same school day will be counted absent, and will receive a zero.
However, in compliance with SISD grading policy, students will be allowed to redo any failing grade. Students can make up their failing grade by Sunday of the same week. While this will not change their absence, it will allow students the opportunity to submit evidence of their academic progress for grading purposes.
Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.
Beginning of the Year Benchmarks
Students traditionally take beginning of the year assessments to determine their needs and provide a baseline for growth. Your child's teacher will let you know more about how and when these assessments will be administered.
As parents, we always want to see our children be successful; however, it will be essential to have your child take these assessments independently. Rest assured that these tests are not used for a grade but rather to better support your child.

Avoid Eye Strain - A Tip from an Ituarte Parent
Greetings,
I wanted to share several solutions that can be used by the students and staff to reduce eye strain caused by extended use of computing devices and hope that you will share this so that people don't have to suffer.
In my experience as an IT professional that spends 12+ hours a day looking at screens- the major cause that has been observed to create this eye strain is blue light that is emitted by the computer monitors. This can be especially prevalent in situations in which the monitor is at maximum brightness and no ambient lighting is present in the room. Thankfully Windows 10 products come with a built in feature that can be enabled to enable what is called "Night Mode" which reduces blue light output and gives a "warmer" picture in terms of light output.
Here is a link to the Microsoft support page that provides instructions on how to enable this feature:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4027563/windows-10-set-your-display-for-night-time
I hope that you find this helpful and pass it along to parents and staff.
Respectfully,
Steve Martin
Who do I call to get an electronic device for my child?
#TeamSISD and Ituarte are committed to ensuring all students have an electronic device so there is no need to contact the campus to to request technology. Please expect a call informing you of the day and time your child's device will be ready.
Currently, we are dealing with Covid-19-caused delays in receiving new devices, so we ask for your continued patience and support as we work through this and the multitude of issues we have before us in preparing to SAFELY and successfully launch the 2020-21 school year.
All students are being provided consumable textbooks. Parents who currently do not have Internet access and/or electronic devices for remote learning will be contacted by their child's teachers. Teachers will provide instructional support via telephone.
