Barry Primary School
Newsletter, December 2022
From Mrs. Klumpp & Mrs. Block
-Community Service: Our K, 1st, and 2nd graders collected food for our school’s food drive! We collected a wealth of items to donate to a local food pantry. Our students also created Thanksgiving cards for residents at the Crown Park Nursing Home. Some of our 2nd graders delivered the food and cards and did a wonderful job representing Barry Primary and the Cortland Enlarged School District.
-Safety: Officer Reyngoudt came to Barry Primary to read a book to our Kindergarten students about lockdowns. He shared the importance of listening to the teachers and being quiet during the drills. Our students did a great job demonstrating safety.
-ROAR Celebration: We had our 3rd ROAR celebration on the 23rd by participating in arts and crafts, STEM activities, and teamwork activities. Thank you to our special area teachers for planning and facilitating our ROAR celebrations.
-Equity Team: The equity team has been supporting diversity in our building and teaching our staff and students about diversity through our theme book, “All Are Welcome” and “All Are Here”. We are excited for the upcoming projects the equity team is planning and we can’t wait to share more!
-Academics: Report cards are going home December 9th. We are proud of our students as they are continuing to engage in our learning community where they are doing their best even when things can be difficult.

Updates from Mrs. Hegedus!!
The kids have been doing a wonderful job participating in our monthly lessons. In Kindergarten we have been focusing on the idea that mistakes are okay! We talked about how mistakes are a normal part of learning and that we need to keep practicing. In first grade we have been continuing to talk about the importance of practicing and continued effort can help them learn. In 2nd grade we have also talked about how mistakes are a normal part of learning and that it is okay to ask for help. That continuing to try and even change up some of our strategies can help us achieve our goals. The kids have been doing a wonderful job during their lessons!!
In other news our Kindness Club will be starting!!

Library News
In the library, 2nd graders have been actively learning with various makerspace tools. These tools help kids to think outside of the box and challenge themselves by working in a group and creating. In first grade, we are going to be starting an author unit and learning how books are arranged on the shelf. Kindergarten students have been learning about the parts of a book and finding books off of the library shelves.
We know things get lost/misplaced. If your child has brought home a notice about a late book, please help them find it. If you cannot find it, let me know. We can talk about options and get another book in their hands ASAP.
