BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February 1, 2023 - March 1, 2023
A History that should be celebrated year round receives an extra highlight this month. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.
Today Black History Month continues the discussion of Black people and their contributions through activities such as museum exhibits and film screenings, and by encouraging the study of achievements by African Americans year-round.

Raising Safe and Savvy Explorers: Equipping Your Child with Cyber Safety Smarts
As technology continues to play a significant role in our lives, it's important to address cyber safety with our children. Here are some key points to consider:
- Open Communication: Encourage open conversations with your child about their online activities. Create an environment where they feel comfortable discussing their experiences and any concerns they may have.
- Safe Online Practices: Teach your child about the importance of protecting personal information, using strong passwords, and being cautious when interacting with others online.
- Digital Citizenship: Emphasize the values of respect, kindness, and responsibility in their online interactions. Discuss the impact of cyberbullying and how to respond to it.
- Parental Involvement: Stay informed about your child's online activities and consider using parental controls and monitoring tools to ensure their safety.
A Note from the Nurses' Department 👩⚕️👩⚕️👩⚕️
- We are still hearing complaints of sore throats, coughs and runny noses 🙁
- Hand washing is the single most important way to prevent the spread of viruses and communicable diseases. Use soap, warm water and disposable paper towels and wash your hands frequently.
Cover coughs and sneezes and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread easily this way!
- Improve air quality with air purifiers or open windows for fresh air! Well-ventilated rooms help reduce the numbers of airborne germs inside.
- “Once a week, take a peek” Please check your child’s hair weekly to prevent a lice outbreak in your home.
- Do your best to eat well, get adequate sleep, and exercise habits to stay healthy!
- The "Health Services" tab on the SD104 webpage is up and running! School health documents, health related registration information, and a directory of nursing staff can be found here! https://www.sd104.us/page/health-services
- Dental days will be February 20th and 21 there is still time to sign up using the QR code or stopping by the office!
