Winter Park Band Notes
October 23, 2016
From Mr. Blackmer
Dear Band Families,
Congratulations to the Sound of the Wildcats on a very solid performance on Saturday at the University Classic marching band show! It was their first full performance of our Bicycle Race show, and they did a terrific job!
Thank you to all of our parent chaperones who traveled with us on Saturday! I want to especially thank our parent Operations team this year - they are fantastic! Also a huge thank you to our student Operations team. They were here working nearly an hour before everyone else on Saturday, and they make it possible for our rehearsals to run smoothly!
This week is Homecoming! It's a crazy week; perhaps the craziest of the school year. It is important that everyone is on their "A Game" this week, especially when it comes to following the schedule.
All the Best to everyone!

Spoleto Spirit Night
The Spoleto restaurant in Winter Park will be holding a "spirit night" to support the Winter Park High School Band on Thursday, November 3, from 6 PM - 9:30 PM. They will be donating 10% of all receipts for patrons identifying themselves with the Winter Park Band! Please make it a night out to enjoy some terrific Italian food, and invite your friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. All they need to do is tell their server that they are there supporting the Winter Park Bands, and we will receive 10% of their total bill!
The Winter Park Spoleto is located at 349 N. Orlando Ave., Winter Park 32789. Their phone number is (321) 972-1425. You can find out more about their restaurant and menu by visiting their website at www.spoletoitalian.com.
"Senior Night"
On Senior Night, we honor our Band seniors, their years of dedication to the WPHS Band and their service to WPHS. This year's Senior Night is our final home performance on Friday, November 4 beginning at 6:45pm. Senior parents need to physically be on the track in front of the Band section immediately following Pre-Game!
Special traditions and activities are planned throughout the football game at Showalter, including a family photo with the Band directors and Mr. Smith during the first quarter, recognition on field after the half time show, and our name banners held by each senior parent during the final Alma Mater sung by our seniors.
Senior parents—please mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend and support your senior!
Homecoming Parade
The Sound of the Wildcats performs at the Homecoming parade and pep rally on Wednesday, Oct 26, however they will be unable to eat at the BBQ on Park Avenue. Please keep this in mind as you see ticket sale information coming to you from the school. If you purchase tickets, the student's meal will have to be put in a “to go” box to be eaten at home once they have returned from the performance.
Band Fair Share 3
The 3rd Band Fair Share payment was due on Wednesday, October 5. If you ever need reminders about what is due and when, the Financial Obligation forms can be found on the Band website under FORMS.
The next Fair Share is due Wednesday, November 2 for all Guard students, and March 1 for all winds and percussion.
The Administration's Obligations List has been updated to reflect all current Band fees. Students who are on the Obligations List will not be able to purchase Homecoming Dance tickets. Please take care of past-due balances today!
Solo & Ensemble MPA
The registration deadline for Solo & Ensemble MPA is right around the corner (November 16). Like last year, all Winter Park Band students will need to prepare a solo or ensemble for February, and they will have a choice whether to perform at Solo & Ensemble MPA or for our Chamber Ensemble Recital on February 7 and 8. Also like last year, students who wish to perform works that cannot be found in the WPHS Band Library can order them directly through Mr. Blackmer.
To register for Solo & Ensemble MPA, click HERE. Must register by Wednesday, November 16.
For a complete list of the Florida Bandmasters approved S&E music, click HERE. Please note that all events (S&E MPA or the home recitals) must have music selected from the official FBA list at a grade 3 level or higher.
New York Tour Payment 3
The 3rd New York Tour payment was due this past Monday, October 17. If you have payment questions, please contact Mr. Blackmer at Christopher.Blackmer@ocps.net. If you still need to make this 3rd payment, please do so sometime today!
Trunk-R-Treat!
Because the week leading up to Halloween is occupied with a Homecoming parade and performance, not to mention a long 3-day weekend, we will be holding the annual "Trunk-R-Treat" following Marching Band rehearsal on Tuesday, November 1. More information to come! Please be sure to note that we will not be holding a marching band rehearsal on Monday, October 31!
