- Jaws; During a late-night beach party on Amity Island, a young woman goes swimming in the ocean. While treading water, she is violently pulled under. The next morning, her partial remains are found on shore. The medical examiner rules it a shark attack. Mayor Larry Vaughn overrides Police Chief Martin Brody's decision to close the beaches to tourists, fearing the town's primary revenue source will be ruined. The coroner now concurs with the mayor's theory that the girl was killed in a boating accident.
