Senior Awards & Graduation 2020
This year’s unusual circumstances have led administrators to think outside the box with the Class of 2020’s Senior ceremonies. This year, Hudson High presented Senior Awards in an original way. Instead of the traditional ceremony, administrators, teachers and staff pre-recorded award presentations and they were presented online. The Class of 2020 received approximately $50,000 in awards to help with their college expenses!
Graduation will be on June 26 at 8:00 a.m. Each student will be able to bring two guests so social distancing can take place. Valedictorian, Victoria Gardner, and Salutatorian, Osman Gofran, pre-recorded their speeches. The Class of 2020 will have two commencement speakers, Mayor Kamal Johnson and author Leroy Collins. Both are Hudson High alumni. Leroy has written a book called The Running Back. Each graduate will get an autographed copy of his book along with a DVD of the 2020 speeches! The community is thrilled to come together for the Class of 2020 as they embark on their future endeavors!
Spencertown Writing Contest Winners Announced
The Spencertown Academy has just announced the winners of its 2020 Young Writers’ Contest and we are happy to share that two winners are Seniors at Hudson High! Students in schools from Columbia and Berkshire Counties submitted samples of their writing which were judged by five panelists. Senior, Piper Nayowith, came in second place with her fictional story titled Malnoia. This story is “eerie, evocative, and superbly written, an ultimately supernatural tale of being drawn to what most haunts us. An evocative atmosphere tale that makes you believe in the merging of dreams, imagination, and the shadowy woods that entrance its narrator.” Also winning the contest for her non-fiction tale is Rida Farzana for Borsa. The judges said “Borsa has great subject matter, attention to detail, authenticity and great potential.” Both students will receive a monetary prize, given by Hawthorne Valley. Congratulations to Piper and Rida!
We hope to have more winners in future contests.

Summer Reading Book Suggestions
The Summer of 2020 will be like no other. We may not be able to hang out with our friends or visit our common summer places, like we have in the past. One thing we can do however is read. Reading will help us build our skills so that we will not be behind once we return to school. Reading is the perfect thing to do for social distancing.
Here is a list of suggested books for teenagers that are recently published. They can be ordered through the Hudson Area Library (once it opens) or any online bookstore. Read and enjoy!
