Trailridge Parent Update
SEPTEMBER 18, 2020
A Note from the Principal and Associate Principal
It was another great week at Trailridge!
We had three successful nights of Supply Pickup. It was great to see students and families - even if it was through the windows of cars. You couldn't see our smiles, but believe us - we had big smiles!
We also had our Virtual Back-to-School Night this week. We hope you took the opportunity to "meet" each of your child's teachers. We know it's not the same as being in person, but we wanted you to be able to hear from each teacher - as well as see their passion for teaching your student.
As we have visited classes, it is great to see how students are engaged in learning. We know things aren't always perfect - and we continue to problem solve issues as they arise. However, we hope you know how much we care about the Trailridge community. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything.
Go Wildcats!

Trailridge Office Hours by Appointment
SKYWARD - To Do's
- Online Verification
- Update your contact information (especially check our phone numbers!)
- Complete the Remote Learning form that was pushed out yesterday. It needs to be completed by October 1. Shawnee Mission School District recently requested that all parents acknowledge three assurances regarding remote learning. The request comes because the Kansas State Department of Education recently changed its requirements for how we verify student learning and attendance. Once you acknowledge the three assurances, we will no longer need to require that students complete and parents sign a daily learning activity log, which would have gone into effect once we entered hybrid learning mode. Your help and cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please log on to Family Access to complete the form.
Student Supplies PickUp
Since we are remote, we needed parents to pick up supplies this week. If you were unable to come, please contact the office to make arrangements to pick up your student's supplies. These are important for your child's learning.

Also, if your student has a KanCare card, please send a picture of it to Trailridge@smsd.org. The bookkeeper will follow-up with you upon receipt.

CANVAS Learning Management System for PARENTS
Parents, check out the district webpage created just for YOU! It provides information on the following:
- Creating an account
- Logging in
- Observer accounts/Pairing with Student Accounts
- Navigating the courses
- Receive notifications
- Check grades
- Message the teacher
- Use the calendar
You can access the webpage HERE.
CANVAS Pairing Codes for Parents/Students
As a student, you will be asked to generate a pairing code to link an observer (your parent/guardian) to your Canvas account. You must create a separate pairing code for each observer who wants to link to your account.
You will want to sit side-by-side with your parent/guardian to create this code and link to their Canvas account. It is a great opportunity to show them the platform from the student side and what you will be doing in your courses.
(Please note that Pairing Codes can only be generated from the web version of Canvas. Pairing Codes cannot be generated from the Canvas mobile apps.)

Meals are funded entirely by USDA as part of their Summer Meals Program extension. These free meals will continue as long as federal funding is available and could end prior to 12/31/20. We encourage families to continue to apply for free and reduced meals in the event the funding is no longer available by clicking here. Qualifying may allow for other support through the district so it is important to continue to apply for free and reduced meals.

- Pick up is on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
- No advance ordering is needed. (The online digital ordering system has been disabled.)

When the district is able to move to the hybrid model, the students will receive their in-person meals at no cost during the two days they are in school. KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY SAFE
We have asked members of the Shawnee Mission School District community (students and staff) to avoid participating in large gatherings, particularly where mask and social-distancing guidelines are not being followed. If you have participated in a large gathering, either indoors or outdoors, where (either)
· Masks are not worn, or
· Social distancing is not observed
Please quarantine for 14 days after the date of departure from the large gathering. We are seeing cases rise in our community and want to do all we can to keep our students and staff safe and healthy. Thank you for doing your part.
