Welcome Back!
August 28, 2019
Welcome Kegonsa school families and students! On behalf of the Kegonsa Elementary staff it is my honor to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. We have been busy this summer preparing the building for the new school year. We are excited to welcome all our students back onTuesday, September 3rd for a full day of school.
Our school leadership team adopted our theme for the year - Be.....Like last year when we highlighted kindness, this year we will be lifting up all the things that are students can be. Be kind, be a leader, be a mathematician etc.
As always I continue to look forward to working together to continue to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, families and community partners. Effective communication is critical in our partnerships and I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher or to me if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. My door is always open. Please don’t everhesitate to call, e-mail, or drop in. We are here for you! - Erin

Raising Caring Children
"Research in human development clearly shows that the seeds of empathy, caring, and compassion are present from early in life, but that to become caring, ethical people, children need adults to help them at every stage of childhood to nurture these seeds into full development." Read more here.

School Wellness
To do this we need your help!
We are asking that for all parties, birthdays, student of the week celebrations we bring in either non-food items or healthy treats. Our wellness team and WFKids parent group have already come up with a ton of fun and inexpensive items that you can bring in. Classroom teachers too are wonderful resources for ideas as well.

From the School Nurse: A Reminder about our Managing Allergies Policy
Dear Families,
The Stoughton Area School District is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all of our students. As part of that commitment, our District has a policy in place to help protect students who suffer from allergies that may lead to a serious life-threatening medical condition (anaphylaxis).
This policy (1022 Managing Life Threatening Allergies) was developed using guidelines from the Wisconsin Association of School Nurses and CDC and after reviewing similar policies in place in other school districts. Although our policy does not ban certain allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, egg, soy, for examples) from District facilities, it does ask our students, staff and visitors to be aware of the medical needs of our students and to comply with the safety measures our staff put in place to reduce our students’ risk of exposure to these allergens.
We have included a link to the policy and the policy guidelines in this communication if you would like more information about the specific types of allergens that could affect some of our students and the protocols we have instituted to address those issues. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we try to maintain allergy-aware facilities. If you have any questions about this policy and/or these guidelines, please do not hesitate to contact Laurel Gretebeck, our District Nurse, at Laurel.Gretebeck@Stoughton.K12.WI.US or 608-877-5405.
Chaperones for Field Trips Must Complete a Background Check
The Board recognizes volunteers make valuable contributions to the District’s schools and enhance learning opportunities for students. Therefore, the Board encourages community members to volunteer in the Stoughton schools, subject to all applicable laws, district policies, regulations and safeguards and administrative guidelines. The safety of all of our children is one of the top priorities of the Stoughton Area School District. All visitors must submit to a security check which will be performed by the building they are visiting. In addition, anyone interested in volunteering for day and overnight trips or driving students must submit to a full background check. Please see scenarios below.
Forms should be submitted at least three weeks in advance to ensure processing time. The background check form needs to be renewed every four (4) years.
A background check form (fillable form to complete and send in) MUST be completed, signed and submitted to Jenny McKenna in the Business office in the below scenarios.
- Chaperoning day trips (i.e. Aldo Leopold)
- Chaperoning overnight trips (i.e. Band or Choir)
- Driving Students in school or personal owned vehicles
Forms may be submitted via:
- Fax at 608.877.5018
- dropped in the night drop box at the building
- school office to be sent interoffice
- mail to 320 North Street
