Falcon Fest 2019
Dear FCI Families,
Mark your calendars for the 20th annual Falcon Fest, March 22nd, 2019 from 6:00-8:30pm! This is a fun-filled night for FCI students ONLY. Students will be able to participate in games, have dinner, and enjoy a fun evening with their friends!
The cost of the evening is $15.00 for early registration and $20.00 at the door. This includes admission and unlimited access to all the games and activities.
Students will be able to purchase food from local restaurants and from the concession stand for an additional cost. PLEASE SEND MONEY WITH YOUR STUDENT FOR FOOD AND CONCESSIONS. Prices will range from $1-$5 per item. Small dollar amounts are encouraged and appreciated.
All students who have pre-registered and paid will received a wristband at school the day of Falcon Fest. They will need to put the wristband on at school and leave it on. Please ensure that your child does NOT take off the wristband before coming to Falcon Fest. The wristband is the student's admission into the event.
Falcon Fest would not continue to be a huge success without the support of our Parents! We are in need of volunteers, donations, and food items for the evening. Please click here to see the Falcon Fest packet for more details.
Thank you,
Falcon Fest Committee

Attention 5th Grade Parents: CPR Night Information
Creating Positive Relationships (CPR) will be hosting a Parent Seminar for FCI 5th grade families on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 6:30pm in the FCI cafeteria.
CPR lessons are NOT taught in the 5th grade. Instead, the parent information session is offered to support these conversations at home.
At the parent support meeting, you will learn strategies to begin parenting conversations that help your child navigate the changes that occur physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially during puberty. While this evening is designed for 5th grade parents specifically, all parents are welcome. If you have any questions, please contact the School Nurse Carol Gump, cgump@hse.k12.in.us
Attention 6th Grade Parents: CPR Information
Dear 6th Grade Parent/Guardian:
Creating Positive Relationships is a curriculum developed to build character in young people, empowering them to develop healthy relationships, benefitting their communities and society.
The Creating Positive Relationship curriculum will be taught by FCI’s physical education teachers to all 6th grade students during PE rotation prior to spring break. The curriculum focuses on teaching students the basics of puberty and sexually transmitted infections (STI); personal relationships; physical, emotional, social and mental health; love vs. crush; and media/technology’s impact on relationships.
If you have any reservations/concerns about the program, please contact your child’s PE teacher or the school nurse for more information.
If you DO NOT wish your child to participate in the CPR program, please click here to download the form. Send the signed form back to your child's homeroom teacher.
If you have any questions, please contact the School Nurse Carol Gump, cgump@hse.k12.in.us
ATTENTION ALL 6th GRADE STUDENTS & PARENTS
The FCJH Band, Choir, and Orchestra Programs WANT YOU! You have an exciting opportunity to participate in band, choir, or orchestra next year at FCJH. Participants will learn how to read music and how to play an instrument or develop your abilities as a vocalist. Classes will meet every day at FCJH just like any other academic class. Every student at FCJH receives SOAR time (comparable to our current SLT time), even the students in a performance ensemble!!!!! Students who are not currently in band, choir, or orchestra have the opportunity to join at FCJH.
“Research shows that students who participate in musical ensembles at school have higher attendance rates and test scores. Even more, new studies show that making music with peers as part of the school day can lead to increased levels of empathy and can lead to making friends faster!”
All you need to do is put band, choir, or orchestra on your schedule as an elective! Students who are currently in band or orchestra simply need to write down band or orchestra to continue to participate next year!
Grab your friends and don’t miss out on all of the fun! COME BE IN THE PERFORMING ARTS!!
Students in the FCJH Band, Choir, and Orchestra take a trip to Kings Island at the end of the school year!
For questions or more information please contact Mr. Waltz, Mr. Spidel, Ms. Yoder, or Mr. Wirtz!

Youth Mentoring Initiative
YMI - Youth Mentoring Initiative has been serving the Fishers community, in partnership with HSE schools, since 2008. YMI partners with our schools to come alongside counselors, teachers, and parents by providing another caring adult to support and encourage the success of each student. YMI is a FREE program, as we are a non-profit organization and exist due to donations, grants, and the support of our community.
Our Mentors are adult volunteers that come to mentor once a week, for one hour, during the school day. Mentors meet one-on-one with students and provide them with a caring and consistent presence in their lives; become a reliable friend; a role model; and simply someone they can count on.
Do you have or know a student that could benefit from having a Mentor? Follow these steps to get them enrolled in the program:
- Go to www.ymionline.org
- Click on BE MENTORED
- Click on RECOMMEND A STUDENT

Wintertime can be a big drain on anyone’s mood. Cold weather, lack of sun, and general boredom can bring on the seasonal blues. But it doesn’t have to be this way! You can beat cabin fever by getting creative, making some changes to your environment, and consuming the right stuff. Fill your winter with family and fun. Here are 10 ways to beat cabin fever…
- Break out a good book. For helpful suggestions and reviews, check out a website like goodreads.com.
- Ask to make dinner. Try a new recipe.
- Do a puzzle. It’s a little old-school, but still fun.
- Pull out some old board games or a pack of cards.
- Have a movie and popcorn night. Dig out an old favorite or stream or rent something new.
- Research your family history and create a family tree.
- Write a letter to an old friend or family member. Everyone loves getting actual letters in the mail.
- Find a show on Netflix that you can binge-watch with your family.
- Bundle up and go outside for a walk, or to sled, or have a snowball fight.
- Volunteer your time at a local nonprofit or animal shelter. Animals especially need a warm place this time of the year.
Redistricting Information for 2019-2020
Dear HSE Families:
We are excited to share with you some various opportunities to help you get acquainted with your new building, principal and teachers. Please see the Redistricting Transition Activities flyer for a complete list.
Throughout the remainder of the school year, principals and counselors will also be visiting schools affected by redistricting to introduce themselves to students and to schedule classes.
We hope these events will help ease some of the concerns that often come with changing schools.Again, we appreciate your support and thank you for your patience throughout the redistricting process.
If you are unsure where you're child will be attending school next year with the new redistricting plan, please use the My School Locator.
Sincerely,
HSE Schools

- homeroom teacher
- time of early dismissal
- nature of dismissal (e.g., doctor appointment, physical therapy, etc.)
- reason for the absence (be specific)
- your full name

If an absence is due to a doctor's appointment, remember to send the doctor's excuse note to school for attendance purposes. Medical absences are recorded differently according to our state/district attendance policies.
Do not communicate absence/early dismissal/transportation changes solely to the teacher. This information must go through the office. While you may also notify the teacher, if the teacher is not present at school and information is sent to him/her, the office will not be knowledgeable of the information.
IMPORTANT SAFETY ITEM REMINDERS
- Buzzer protocol - When you ring the buzzer for entry, remember that the office staff will ask you your name, intent, child's name/homeroom to ensure those that enter FCI should enter.
- Photo ID - Whether picking up or dropping off, please have photo ID such as your driver's license ready for identification purposes.
- Door 1 entry - All visitors must enter via door 1 regardless of time of day. Please do not come in the cafeteria door with students before school.
- Bus lot - Do not enter the bus lot prior to bus arrival or while buses are in the lot.
- Drop-off - Please make all attempts possible to have your child exit your vehicle on the side of the curb. Exit the opposite side and walking in between cars is not safe.
Activity dismissal
For school-wide events such as the Hang Out, Falcon Fest, all-school stay-after basketball games, the following pick-up procedures assist in safer, quicker dismissal:
- 5th grade parents to travel north on Olio Road into the front parking lot then south on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in FRONT of the building for 5th grade.
- 6th grade parents to travel south on Olio Road into the bus parking lot then north on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in the bus lot for 6th grade. This is north of the school on the side face HSE High School.
ABOVE ALL, we know your schedules are very busy as well. However, we ask that you NOT park in the parking lot and ask your child to walk across the lot. This is not safe as there are many vehicles in the lot. Please assist us in keep all of our children safe and remain in the pick up line. We will take all possible efforts to move the line quickly and safely. Thank you in advance!! :)
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (available for iPhones and in Google Play for all other phones) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in.
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
