Boys Soccer Regional Champions!
Varsity Soccer - Coach Erpelding
Last Thursday night at Paola was the best night in Eudora Soccer history thus far as EHS won 2-1 triple overtime to claim the first Regional Championship in program history!!! It was an awesome night and a great game to be apart of!
The first half we controlled a lot of, but we just could not score. Defensively they had a couple of opportunities that we were able to turn away. In the second half they got up 0-1 about 4 minutes into the half. Their best player which we were man-marking was able to outrun our guys and was able to chip junior goalie Devon Moncrief to take the lead 0-1. A lot of teams in a game like this would have folded, but our guys didn't even panic. We have been in this situation before whether in practice or a game. I would say the situation caused our team to come together after their goal. The boys turned it up a notch the rest of the way. Right around the 20-minute mark senior Caden Willits got the ball on the left sideline, got fouled but not call. He was able to keep the ball then went on a dribble down the line, cut the ball back into the box and beat three guys. He then hit an absolute laser from about 14 out into the top left. The Paola keeper didn't even move his hands until the ball was past him. After this we really controlled the game. The only real chances they had were from 30+ yards out. I will say this they hit some worldlies on frame, but keeper Devon Moncrief was right there all three times to make three great saves to keep the game tied. We had several near misses and their keeper made three or four really good saves.
Finally, in triple overtime we broke through with about 2:13 left. They were offsides, which we were fortunate to get and not a handball. Junior Dylan Meier hit a 60-yard bomb and put it right on junior Alex Kooken's head. Junior Keaton Herron came running in from the wing and timed the run perfect with Alex's flick. Keaton had a 1v1 with the keeper and he put the ball away!!! Then the celebration happened and a dog pile ensued in Paola's 18 and by their bench.
The kids, the fans, and a lot of Eudora back home went nuts! It was truly an amazing sight. To see the kids' pure exhilaration and watch the fans' excitement, is something that nobody will ever forget. This was many many years of disappointment and frustration being squashed away. This team may have won this Regional Championship on the field, but every player that ever played here at Eudora had a hand in the Championship. We could not have accomplished this feat without all of the work from all the players and coaches before us.
Now we get the opportunity to play in the State Quarterfinal at home against Heritage Christian tonight at 6:00pm. If we win tonight we get to go play two more games in Wichita this weekend in the 1A-4A State Tournament Semi-Finals and Finals. It should be fun!!!!!
Congratulations 3rd Place Winners - 4A State Cross Country!

Comments:
Today was a big step in the right direction for the boy’s cross country program. We were back at the state cross country meet racing as a team for the first time in 20 years. From that point of view, the season was already successful no matter how we finished today. As far as the racing went, we raced pretty well today. Times are not going to be as fast on Wamego’s course due to the fact that it is just a much harder course to race. Our time gaps were were even pretty good today compared to what we usually run. Cody Loganbill continued to lead the team today finishing in the top 30. Senior Hayden Miller ran as close to his season PR as anyone we had on the day today. We got sophomore Kurtis McCormick back from illness today and he got great experience running in a state meet that will benefit him next season. More than anything, we the entire team got some great experience today. Five of our runners today are 9th and 10th grade students and we expect as we continue to bring up runners in classes behind them I think this experience today becomes even more valuable. Today we got to see what the best teams in the state look like and that is something we will strive to be as we mature and grow as runners.

Comments:
Today didn’t go quite how we expected it to go. We did expect that the top three teams would be Buhler, Baldwin, and Eudora but we had high expectations that the order of that was going to be different. Unfortunately, when you actually line up and race things don’t always go according to plan. We certainly had the talent to win today and after our top three runners we were leading the race, but we didn’t have the performances from the entire team that was needed to win a state meet. And, honestly, we knew that’s what it was going to take - everyone running their best. All that said, we still finished 3rd today and that is a great way to finish the season. In the race today we had 3 girls finish in the top 20 and earn state medals and all-state honors. For Reagan and Riley Hiebert, today was the finish to a couple of great careers running cross country for Eudora. Both girls earned all-state honors today and ran really great races. Our other all-state performer today was freshman Phoebe Fletcher. Phoebe has had an exceptional freshman season and today was the 3rd best freshman girl in class 4A. With our #3-#12 runners returning (which includes the top JV team in 4A state), and a lot of talented 8th grade runners coming up next season the future looks bright for the girls cross country program. We fully expect to be one of the top programs in the state and we will be competing for state championships in the years to come.
Varsity Volleyball - Coach Cleveland
The varsity volleyball team traveled to the 4A State Tournament in Hutchinson on Friday! There was a lot of excitement leading into the tournament, considering that EHS Volleyball team had not been back to the State tournament since 2006. Starting their morning, the girls loaded the bus early with the parents, the football team players and coaches sending them off with good luck cheers.
First match of the afternoon was against Towanda-Circle. The Cards worked hard throughout the week of practice, preparing for this first match up. After the coin toss, the girls would be on the receiving end of the first serve, and unfortunately, the first received ball resulted in an ace against the Cards. Throughout the match, the The Lady Cards struggled to find their rhythm and we played very tense. Sophomore Harper Schreiner played a key role in the match and was our calm in the storm so to speak. She didn’t come out guns blazing, but she focused on the little things and consistently did her job throughout the entire match. The end result was a loss for the Cards 19-25, 22-25.
Second match of the day, the cards competed against #2 ranked team, Independence. Match number two for the Cards was all around much smoother for the girls. The Cards jumped out to an early lead in the first set. Our passers did a much better job of keeping the ball in-system. Our setter, sophomore Emma Durr looked a lot more comfortable in her position on the court. She did a great job getting the ball to key attackers early and also did a great job of playing in the present. Several tough calls were called against her early in the set. The Cards took the second match of the day 25-20, 25-17.
Third match of the day, was against a tough Topeka-Hayden team. The Cardinals faced Hayden at the beginning of their season at the Baldwin tournament, which resulted in a loss. Going into this match, the Cards were determined to put up a good fight. In our pre-match huddle, we talked about taking the match one set at a time and always playing in the present. It takes one set win to believe you can win a match. First set of the match, junior Jayla Pierce did an awesome job of stopping Hayden’s middle attacker. She also did a great job of closing the block at the pins which allowed our back row to dig up several attacked balls. Leading the way offensively for the Cardinals was senior Keagan Shockley. Keagan did an awesome job early in the match putting away key attacks. The Hayden defense struggled early to stop her. Unfortunately for the cards, we struggled to get out of a couple rotations and lost the first set, 18-25. Second set of the match was dominated by the Cardinals. Everything was in system for the Cardinals. Defensively for the Cards, our first line of defense lead again by Jayla Pierce was dominating! She was able to get in the heads of Hayden’s attackers early. Offensively for the Cards, Keagan Shockley came up with several kills. Hayden’s defense struggled to stop her! The Hayden coaches attempted to change their blocking assignments against her, too bad for Hayden, it did not work! The Cards took the second set 25-17. Third set of the match, the Cards came out with a lot of determination. The first few points of the match were dominated by the Cards. Unfortunately, we could not hold onto the lead. Throughout the day, the cards really struggled in a couple rotations to score points. The Cardinals lost the third set 12-25 and that was a wrap to our season. Keagan Shockley was nominated for the State All-Tournament Team!
Overall, the Cardinals had a fantastic season! We finished our season with an overall record of 27-15 and a league record of 6-2! It was an absolute pleasure getting to coach this team! I will dearly miss our seniors, Claire Ewy, Delaney Franklin, Mia Manley, Mara Oleson and Keagan Shockley. Thank you all for a great season!!!
Varsity Football - Coach Hayden
The Eudora Cardinals ended their season last Friday, losing to the Bonner Springs Braves in the 1st round of the playoffs. This season was a major improvement and the Cardinals have plenty to be proud of. They won the most games since 2016 and had two more games that went down to the wire with the Louisburg and the first Bonner Springs game. The Frontier League is very senior heavy this year and the Cardinals were the youngest team in the league. Eudora played the number 2, 3, 6, and 9 teams in the state, all of which played many seniors. The Cardinals look to be the favorites in the league next year if they work hard in the offseason and compete in every sport they can.
The Offense was only five points away from doubling their point production from 2018. This is a positive going into next season as the offense returns 97% of their rushing, 100% of their passing, and 70% of their receiving yards. The Cardinals rushed for 1,840 yards this year compared to 1,654 last year. They passed for 716 yards compared to 267 yards last season. The total offensive production was 2,556 yards this season compared to 1,921 last year. Junior QB Zeke Reazin had 1,041 total yards and 10 touchdowns, Junior RB Cael Lynch had 623 total yards and 6 touchdowns, Sophomore RB Brayden Beerbower had 398 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, Sophomore Silas Etter had 361 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, Freshman Octavius Lyles had 338 total yards and 2 touchdowns, Senior Sloan Hayden had 162 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, while senior Jake Boucher had 154 total yards. The offensive line returns 6 players who started at least one game on the offensive line, while there are 6 skill players returning who started a game for 12 total returners with experience. The goal for next year will be to double their offensive production again.
The Defense was much improved from the year before. The defense allowed 23.2 points per game this season after allowing 31 points per game the year before. The goal for next year is to allow less than 14 points per game, and the number of kids with defensive experience should help as well as a few key kids stepping up into new roles. Junior LB Cael Lynch led the Cardinals with 94 tackles and 2 sacks, Junior LB Alex Allison had 79 tackles, while Sophomore Brayden Beerbower had 67 tackles and 1 interception, with limited action in the last 3 games of the season. Junior Darrell Higgins had a big year for the Cards on the defensive line, registering 45 tackles and 4 sacks. Senior multipurpose player Jake Boucher chipped in 56 tackles, after playing multiple positions for the Cardinals. The interception leaders were Seniors Adam Monroe and Noah Watkins with two interceptions a piece. Noah had one interception return for a touchdown. The Cardinal defense will work on tackling more so next year as many of the yards that teams gained were after first contact. This will be fixed going forward. The defense returns 8 players who started at least 1 game and several others who rotated in.
The special teams were much improved this year, with Senior kicker Caden Willits going 16/17 from PAT. The Cardinals are looking for soccer players who want to fill that void next year. Senior punter Brett Breedlove had a 49 yard net average on his punts, with 4 punts being downed inside the 5 yard line and only 1 touchback.
Scholar's Bowl - Coach Garrsion
The JV squad travelled to Spring Hill on 10/30 and finished at 500, 4-4, in pool play. In their first ever match, Freshmen Quentin Greer scored 10 points, Eythen Moore scored 20 points, and Terek Stoll earned 50 points. Sophomores Teaghn LeRow and Brandon Warner lead scoring with 130 points and 140 points respectively.
