Mustang News - October 7th, 2022
From The Principal
Happy October! This week we had a wonderful College Fair with over 30 schools representing a variety of post secondary options—thank you to our Counseling department. Additionally, our work on the Mustang Way continues: please consider joining us for trail building from 7:45-12 for any of the next three Saturdays: 8th, 15th, and/or 22nd (remember to complete the waiver beforehand).
Next week, please remember that Wednesday, October 12th is not a late start day due to PSAT 9 for 9th graders and PSAT NMSQT for 10th and 11th graders (no school for 12th graders) and that there is no school for students on Friday, 10/14 due to the staff work day.
Have a great weekend!

PSAT - Next Week
Dear Mustang Students and Families,
On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, the high school will have testing for 9th -11th graders starting at 8:05 am (this will NOT be a late start). Seniors will NOT have school on October 12. 9th grade will take the PSAT 8/9, while Grades 10 and 11 will take the PSAT/NMSQT. Testing for students without accommodations will conclude at 12:00, followed by lunch for students from 12:00-12:30 pm, and students will be dismissed at 12:30. Families may pick up students anytime after testing concludes at 12:00 pm.
Please be aware that due to a middle school field trip, we will not be able to offer buses until 3:20; we will have supervision available for students who cannot be picked up until then, but encourage families to please coordinate transportation if possible.
The PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT exams give students, families, and our school information regarding where students are in meeting college readiness benchmarks. Additionally, the PSAT NMSQT enables 11th grade students to be eligible to compete for the National Merit Scholarship (which we currently have one semifinalist for!).
Research shows that taking PSAT aligned tests in preparation for the SAT decreases stress and increases readiness and scores for students. As part of our college and career readiness work at MSHS, students will continue to take these tests in the fall and spring until April of their junior year when they will take the SAT. The SAT is used by colleges all over the country for college acceptance, and at times placement into courses. Furthermore, if students earn qualifying scores for both Math and English, the SAT can satisfy the testing element of Colorado’s Menu of Graduation Requirements (which students need to earn in addition to the minimum number of credits).
Thank you in advance for your partnership on this matter and please reach out to us if you have any further questions: aconrad@mssd14.org.
Best,
Anna Conrad & MSHS Team

Volunteer Opportunity - Maniboo
Maniboo is a Halloween carnival that MSES does each year to promote community and fun. This fundraiser has traditionally brought together students from MSHS and MSMS to help support our littlest learners. This year the event will take place at MSES on October 28th from 4:30-7pm.
Elementary students come dressed in their Halloween attire and participate in carnival-like games.Games include activities like: fishing, ring toss, cake walk, fortune telling and face painting.
We are looking for 20-30 student volunteers to help us on October 28th in two hour increments from 4-6pm and 6-8pm.
